I haven't spent too much time following CS Source so I was wondering if any of you fanatics had the minimum and recommended requirements for a PC to play Source.  Of course the manufacturer's recommendations don't always meet the real life needs, so any personal input you can give so one doesn't get owned is also desired.

As an FYI, here's my PC specs, and believe me I ain't bragging:
CPU - Athalon XP2000+, 1.67 GHz
RAM - 512 MB PC2100
FSB - 266 MHz
Video - Nvidia Ti4200 128 MB

You have the same exact computer as me practically except that my Athalon XP processor runs at 1.4 gHz and i have 768 MB of ram.  I ran souirce last night and tweaked some settings to get about 35 fps.  I did pretty well with that, but I will be looking to upgrade to a better board, processor, ram and video card as soon as possible (hopefully when I get a new job).

lol...you couldn't have been dumb enough, like me, to buy a Compaq Presario (6410nx)!!!  I tried to upgrade to 1 GB of RAM but the PC puked on it...Compaq said I probably needed a new motherboard, after the warranty expired.  I lmao and said I guess 512 will have to work.

Lmao...they don't make PCs much better than that...must be that you're just no good at CS!  Try solitare or freecell, they'll run fine.

Well i dont know whats up with my comp, like at first it runs fine then it just turns to crap, on aztec i get anywhere from 20-40 fps and im not even sure what it is anymore, i think im gonna go to the store buy a new video card and try to get the one that comes with free hl2.

My VIDEO CARD

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-125-132&depa=1

hmm ive notice some things when i play cs, at first it runs great at 100 fps, but as i play for maybe like 30 secnods, not sure because i havent counted, the fps start to drop, just take a look at these ss.

http://rscene.temp.powweb.com/xtc/inf1.jpg     GOOD
http://rscene.temp.powweb.com/xtc/inf2.jpg     BAD

http://rscene.temp.powweb.com/xtc/inf4.jpg     GOOD
http://rscene.temp.powweb.com/xtc/inf3.jpg     BAD

I also took a look at this
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/geforce_fx_half-life2/
Im installed the latest nvidia driver which includes direct x 9, but im pretty sure i had it before hand, but anyways im not sure what the hell is going on in the article, but it may be the cause of my fps issue, people said hl2 runs good with the 5700, and i get severe fps drops just with cs, so if anyone can help plz do. And a note, those pics were taken within like 60 - 120 seconds of each other, but the mroe you play the worse it gets i guess

I think it is saying that even though you have dx9 installed your cs is still runs off of dx8.  Try this: Valve recommended we use the switch "-dxlevel 90? at the command line to force GeForce FX cards to run the DirectX 9 path.  Try that and if it works add it to your user.cfg so that it executes it every time you connect.

You built the pc yourself, eh?  Just throwing this out there - do you have enough cooling and ventilation?  Fans all running?  If all yes, then how about your vid card settings?  VSYNC off?  Etc.?

BYW...I seldom get 100 fps...when a round starts or when I stare at the wall with nobody around I get 100 but all other times it's all over the friggin' place.

I've given up tweaking.  Seems I'd get it to 100 consistently then Valve would drop a new release and everything went down the shitter again.
