There is no rage, there is no attitude... there is just great disappointment that I'd like to bring up with the TE servers.

Some of you might know me as "Wolfy", some may have seen me as "Traveling Gnome"... Still I found "The Elders" Team Fortress 2 Server some year or so ago and added it to my list as one of the two commonly chosen servers to spend my evening playing at.
For a while things were fine, I would play my share and, when I would get fed up with the "issues", I would simply leave.
But as I've started making friends on the server, it was harder for me to show my disrespect for their TE community by simply turning my back to them and leaving them to the mercy of the server.

In my TF2 "career" I have seen different games on TE servers:
Some had assholes and generally rude people, who thought it was their main priority to mess up the game for everyone else. They were either dealt with by the present administration, or were muted and ignored by the players...
Some were grossly overpowered, when the entire TE regular crew would stack one team and begin the slaughter of helpless nubs (with 6+ snipers camping the spawn exit). So I used to ask people to either balance or try to switch to the losing team and balance things out with mixed success.

In the past, I would simply submit some of my comments to Smurfette and she would pass it on to other people. I saw no need to create a forum username and bring these things up personally... I felt bad by pointing out the ugly side of the server and hoped that the silly issues would mature and would go away on their own.

A lot of things changed for the best...
And, in general and recent past, all of the games were nicely leveled in skill and team leadership and were a good time spending for the evening. To those that did their best to change things for the best: Thank you!

However I would like to point out one issue that I've had for a while with one of the administrators... and even though I hate pointing fingers, just this once I will. Yes, Video... I am pointing at you... sorry...

- For a while there were things like using the admin console to switch maps to something of his choosing, leaving the player to scream "WTF just happened?" in global chat... but that was all games and everyone would joke about it more then consider it a problem.

- There were times when he would join a team and, after some short input, would sit in the spawn point "handing out items" to different players. Not actual items, like hats or weapons, no breaking of Steam law. No, sir! But this little "hand out" game would start nice and innocent and end up with the massive giveaway of lewd and insulting things. Sure, giving out "anal lube" to the team that was badly outnumbered and was defeated in a blink of an eye is nice and fun for one map... But keeping it up for a number of maps straight was a little disappointing, not to mention insulting. My only shame is that I did not take a screenshot of all the people "disconnected by user" when the offense had begun. I've tried to point it out, but was quickly squelched and complained against. To mo my knowledge (and my sincere hope) at such global scale it was a one-time occurrence... Nevertheless, it was very unpleasant.

- Then there were the issues of "my sprays"... This is where it gets interesting.
My sprays have zero offensive content, unless you call "dancing spy" and different comical instances in my sprays insulting.
As you might know, at the beginning of the round, waiting at your spawn for the gate to destruction to open, many players play the "spray war": players would attempt to spray their spray on top of someone else's. Playing a 100% support class of medic and engineer I have very low server position, so my sprays very often ends up underneath everyone else.
However and for some strange reason, Video decided that it was "against the rules" for me, and mind you for me only, to spray my spray even next to anyone else. I alone was commented about it, in my presence no one else was. Well, no big deal, I thought... I would find some deserted corner and spray my spray there. Did I mention that other players would spray their sprays on top of everyone else? And so very soon there were other sprays on top of mine. Video would shout and scream at me for "doing it again" without ever trying to find out if such was the case. I would be talked over, yelled at, slapped by the admin console and have my health reduced by 1/4 or 1/2 of my bar... at times in the middle of combat, which would get me killed nice and fast.
I am not aware of any such rule that would prevent me to spray my spray over or next to anyone else... if there is such a rule, please explain it to me... for I do not understand what is the problem with my sprays...
And if MY sprays are insulting or carry pornographic content... Video, have you ever paid attention to some others that DO carry insulting or Adult content. I am aware that the game has an M ESRB rating, but I am quite sure there are a lot of under 18 playing it.

-And the last, but not least... My ban off the server, October 5th 2009.
Today I've played another, but my last game on TE servers... Perm-Ban or Temp-Ban, I don't want to come back to TE servers.
As for the reason, as my Steam informed me, and I quote "Dis-Respecting the /Admins" (not sure why that extra punctuation is there, but it is what was displayed to me). There was no decent explanation, no note, not even a warning... there was just ban.
As for the "cause":
As some of you might know, Video is a decent-then-most sniper. He puts out face-shots, some very great ones, might I add, but I've seen him killed, and killed him myself enough times... A well practices shot it a well practiced shots, death threats and players screaming "fu video" aside... Just in the past game he had the highest score of 62, thats in a game where the next highest score was 36 (I will not even go into scores of the team Video was not on, lots of people disconnected shortly after... some clearly stating their frustration). So after the unfortunate match a player asked Video if he was specifically aiming at him. I, joking around, said... and I quote again "Video's hack shoot everyone in the head without discrimination". Two seconds after I was removed from the server. AS I've mentioned, I was not informed of the details, just that I "disrespected the admins".

I realize that having the power of the ban hammer and other perks is great... And I also realize that having your own private game pool feels nice and cozy...
I, however, have heard that the goal of TE TF2 server is to provide a fun and challenging environment for all the players, not just Video.
Who, in order to make the game more pleasant for himself, changes maps without a vote and gets away with it, cause damage to players for no apparent reason but most likely to display his authority and the size of his admin-hammer, or to exercise his ban powers on someone who might have said something he did not like, for whatever reason... I will not even mention the inability to take a joke or to act mature, or the use of strong language... everyone is like that, right?

To the last question, my personal answer is "No". Not a single time I've used a cuss word or directly insulted someone... and if I did so indirectly and was pointed at it, I've always apologized. I'm sorry, but I can not understand those people who thrive by always reaching for the top score in the game and highest ran on the server... I've always played a medic to support others, even knowing that there will be a spy coming for me and none of my teammates will likely to help me. I've never understood the talking down and "pwned j00 n00b" talk, and instead prefer to encourage my teammates, taking leadership if necessary... and complimenting and thanking the enemy team for their good performance.
I've always tried to play on the team, until today, when I was forcefully removed from the team.

This is not a whine, by all means... This is a clear statement of actions of a TE Server Administrator, named Video Master, and his record of abusing his administrative privileges to better suit his game, disregarding and stripping the game of fun for other players, causing unneeded frustration and hard feelings.

Video, I don't have any hard feelings towards you... just a deep disappointment. Instead of playing the game, you've done your best to be the game. If you are such a great player, why do you take so much insult from someone's words? Either way, I wish your sniper career to be long and prosperous... Might want to stop pissing in a jar and find a permanent residence, I hear trailers get chilly over winter... Why not try another class for a change?

But to anyone else, whom I've played with over the past time I've been on TE:
It was a lot of fun and a great honor to go against your skill and be able to match it...

Well, to post an elaborate and detailed thread I'm sure you have strong feelings towards this matter.  We take the conduct of our admins very seriously in the servers.  Video is one of our more skilled players when it comes to TF2.  I'm sure he'll take some of that as a compliment...but the "abuse" matter should have been talked about before the ban.  Rarely ever does anyone get a ban without first having consulted another admin or posting up some sort of demo/screenshot of the offense. 

Since I wasn't present and don't know the official reasoning behind this matter, you will have to talk to Video himself.  And keep in mind, we do try to create a "fair" and "fun" atmosphere for all players.  Sometimes that takes disciplinary actions.

Well first off, I rarely change the maps on the server and especially not without asking people in the server.  Even when people want it changed I usually ask one of the other people who has the authority to do it in our VENT channel to do it.  So unless you have the logs to the server you need to stop pointing the finger at me for when things happen on the server.

We are actually working on a plugin to give out items on a regualr basis and even store what each person has earned in a database.  I was coming up with a list of different things and even telling everyone else in our vent channel about it and they were giving me lots of ideas as well.  I am sorry that you might be offended by some things, but this is a mature community and mature things will be talked about or handed out.

I have asked you many times to not spray over other peoples' sprays and I ask lots of other people not to do it as well.  You are not on my team that often so you do not always hear me ask other people this same thing that I ask you.  It is very inconsiderate to spray over other peoples sprays and I will keep telling people not to do it.  When sprays are removed a punishment is handed out.  So any time that someone removes your spray or anyone elses they get to choose what punishment is dealt.  This is part of the plugin that we have on our server.  Just do not spray over anyone elses spray and you will not lose any life.

You were banned for 1 Day or 1440 Minutes (however you want to look at it) as you have been asked in the past not to state that I am hacking.  I have mentioned it to you and Smurfette has talked to you about it as well.  We do not tolerate hacking at all here.  It is honestly not something to joke about at all.  You messed up and started claiming I was hacking again so you got banned cause you were disrespecting an admin.  Also to point out, I am not just an admin on the TF2 server, I am the division leader and the one responsible for the TF2 server.

We do not joke about hacking here.  We have rules here and respecting the admins is one of the rules.  You have been talked to not only by me, but also by Smurfette.  If you break the rules there are consequences.  We are usually pretty easy going with some of them and let some things slide, but like I said, you have already been talked to.

1) The occasional map change by an admin is no big deal...we do pay for the servers.

2) If the items are that much of an issue, maybe it's time for them to go.

3) If someone sprays over your spray get over it and spray it again...you can't "punish" someone for spraying their spray, thats just stupid.

4) You can't stop freedom of speech just because you don't like what somone says. I don't care who talked to who, to ban someone over something like that is stupid. You both need to get over it.

Stupid drama like this is why I don't play in the pub anymore. It's just not fun for me.

It was a constatation of an action that happened in the past. Even as I've stated it happening, I've never said anything else about it, like how often or recent it was, or even that it was bad. I've mentioned it do describe that you use your administration access to bend the server in a way that might not be pleasant to other players.
If such was the case that there was a majority of people asking for a map change, then why was there never a vote in game? I am not on your vent, so I can not speak to that, but the server room is 30+ people... are all of them in TE vent and state their vote?
Still, this is a minor thing. I've mentioned it just as something that threw me to an awe at a few points, nothing else.

You have mentioned it once and I haven't done it again. The other sprays were sprayed atop of mine... so how come I was the only one discriminated against and asked not to do it again (and slapped by the admin console) when it was not my fault? As I've mentioned before, you acted immature towards this issue more then once, jumping to assumptions and punishing the people you favor less then others. Actually, Smurfette told me that she is not sure why you are so fired up about the joke. She does frequently tells me how you are cursing at me in the vent, though.

Video, I used to think you were a magnificent sniper: quick and skillful... I still do in a way.
But there was time when I would go spy just to watch you. In particular there was this one time that have shattered any good faith I have had in you. This was the first time I've ever joked about you hacking.
It was a payload map, you were on blue... sniping as usually. You got to the top room with a small sniper window and were sniping away at the spawn point. I've tried counter-sniping you, but you kept shooting me through the wall or those stacks of boxes on the right side of the spawn. No, that is no hiking. I have had bad experiences with with collision in TF2 numerous times and got sniped by you , or crit-rocketed by numerous others when I have made it all the way back into spawn room and was hugging the med cabinet.
So I've picked a spy. "No problem, I thought, I'll sneak around... wait in the corner and then WHAM! He will never see me coming!" It was me and the other spy coming specifically for you. We both had full cloak, since we've stopped before entering he room and recharged. He went left, I went right... But it did not matter, the moment we entered you ran into the corner and sat there aiming exactly where I was. I was surprised, to say the least... Have I dropped my cloak? No, it was still on. IN approximately two seconds of my camp, pyro ran in and went spraying around the room. I rolled in a ball and hoped for the best... Somehow, the fire had missed me, but it took out the other spy. "Fine, I thought, with one spy dead, you should feel safe and go back to sniping... so I could get you" But no, you kept sitting in your corner looking at me. Pyro came back, this time he went spraying directly into my corner, making sure that the fire would reach me. After I respawned, you were back to sniping.
A freak accident? Could be... but I took small time to scout on the forums and got to this thread (http://theelders.net/forum/index.php?topic=7586.msg87322#msg87322)
According to you, the poor chap got banned for

... and alot of what you were doing was able to see other cloaked spies and the like.  That would be considered a wall hack.  Then there is the perfect aim that you seem to have.  99.9% of your kills with the ambassador were all headshots...

I can say that I've watched you and saw you have the same kind of effect on the game... If just watching a person could get them banned, then my question is... have anyone ever watched you? And if suck case happened and you were proven to be innocent... Then why are you one special case that take the hiking joke as an insult... Even the fellow in the thread I've just pointed towards has a laugh and thanks you for a compliment:

All and all, I still think and imply that you use Admin console on the server as your own personal implication of force, making immature and personally influenced decisions to punish players who are not your favorites. And it is the only thing I am calling you on.

alot of his shots were really sketchy when i watched him
and i remember first coming on the server and specing Video and i didn't spot foul(or fowl) play unlike with NsanE

And this ENTIRE statement proves it. You think he's hacking and you've been calling him out on it even since! But I've got some news for you. Ever heard of ghosting? Yep. Almost all your favorite admins are guilty of that crime. I've brought it up before but no one thinks it's that bad. Sorry to say but it's the spy class that get the short end of the stick on that one. Wanna remove that foot from your mouth now?

The map changes, almost every admin here has changed the map at some point. With or without discussion from the players. Get over it.

The spray thing you can blame me for that one. I started getting mad about my sprays getting sprayed over. Now yes, I can go spray it else where, but people take some great offence to naughty cartoons. I've NEVER sprayed ANYTHING pornographic in our severs, and never will! I respect our players at least enough to not get too graphic. Point is, is that I take A LOT of time making sprays. I like to able to have a new spray every map change. So I've got some 100+ sprays I've hunted, cropped, cut and re-sized MYSELF! I spend as much time working with "spray material" as I do playing the dang game! So I think it EXTREMELY rude when someone spends the whole round spraying over my spray (and yes it happens!). I bring them to the server for people to enjoy. It's part of the fun of playing with me. So spraying over it ticks me off!

as for the admins changing the map...the only time we have done it (with me in atleast) was in a server half or less full, and its normally a map change to a map which will populate the server,we're not trying piss anyone off, we always let the community chose with the map vote (pops up on the left hand side) which yes we have played the same 3 maps back to back to back cause of that (or sometimes will change due to that reason)

i will admit i have a very bad habit of ghosting  but calling out where the sentry killed me from or if i was back stabbed and so on (not sitting there in spectate while im waiting to respawn calling it out)

GFH is one that usually asks people politely just about all the time not to spray over other sprays, ive seen your spay i like it, very original

better to bring it up regardless what it is, good, Ugly, whole reason we have a forum and advertise it in TF2, we want to hear what the public has to say....

but tomorrow we do have a public meeting tomorrow OCT.6 at 800pm EST (someone can give you the vent info if you need it)and all TE members (even some you've probably never heard of) more than welcome to express your opinions and such, and it is nice (specially in the last few) we have had public non-TE members come into meetings and go in depth on issues concerns, we do like to hear what the community has to say about whats going on in the server

Yes 6 snipers is way overkill, we try in game to suggest people to play other classes when one class gets stacked liked that, some times yes we do stack teams, some like GFH refuse to for these reasons, we only do it once in a while and it is kind of a gray area cause people don't like to see it but we do like to play as a "team" (quoted cause we're a community, not a clan/ team and so forth)sometimes...but for some reason, when a votescramble goes through or if we force it our self it still stacks the teams...no clue why

ok wow this is just stupid... all of us stacking one team??? guess what idiot most of us random so how the fuck is that stacking a team? lets see what else hmmm ohh shooting spys well i play spy ALOT.... like almost all the time and i enjoy hunting video so he gets used to listening to cloaking sounds and the little shimmering of cloaks and what not. and like others said yes we will say hey saw a spy or what not or somthing along those lines.. pritty much all youve done is come in and bitched about nothing because you got banned.. truthfully you dont pay much attention then yelling at people about sprays hell i do that but im not as nice as the others i flat out slay people for it after i warned them no slapping 2 more warnings and they get kicked they come back and do it again i ban for 30 min. so you dont notice then if it wasnt happening to you hell ive banned 8 people last week alone for spray violations so obviously that point is mute now... hmmm what else am i missing ohh changing maps guess what you said it yourself OUR FUCKING SERVER!!! were allowed to change the map moron but most of the time we will say something in chat or vent. and alot of the times its on a map thats not as popular as the others... well if i missed anything else well it must not be all that important im content i had my rant

So if say I were killed by a spy, and the zoom death cam showed him cloaked in a corner, and then I shouted out where he was in vent, that's ghosting.

OK first of, Thalan fucking take a chill pill. He is expressing his opinion calmly and with respect, so show some.

Second I didn't know spy's cloaking noise can be heard 2 rooms away over missiles firing and grenades going off. If it was a simple ghosting thing them just say it was then stop doing it.

Third, the need for higher management is calling everyday.

If you guys get pissed and ban people because they sprayed their spray over yours I will remove your fucking admin now. That has got to be the dumbest reason to ban/slap/or kick someone I have ever heard.
Banning someone for saying you hack shouldn't be done unless someone repeatedly stays on the mic and spams it. You are an admin with full rights to the server. Who fucking cares if they call you a hacker, what are they going to do??? Ban you? Kick you? No! You know how many times I was called a hacker in GunGame when I was winning by the hundred?? I lost count. Did I ban anyone for it, NO. You guys are way too sensitive here and we will be discussing this at the next meeting.

Looks like I may have to go to a "Earn your admin" system here instead of giving it to all members, because obviously  some of you guys are not mature enough to have it.
