Heres the problem

My sister plays cs ( fx^iconcept )

but whenever i'm in te pub and she tries to connect,  its forever stuck at the (establishing connection ) and vice versa

Okay stats

my computer = desktop computer wired to the router

router - netgear wireless router MR81v2

okay

sisters on a dell laptop

she connects to internet using 802.11 wirelss card built into motherboard

our ip's have 1 digit different ; the last one

ive checked every setting in the router but i dont seem to get it working

yes we can play lan but we cannot play in the same server

One reason is both of you are actually gonna have the same IP address. The ip address you guys have is an internal IP address. The external IP address will be the same for both of you once you go past the router.

Let me look into something and I will get back.

ok here is what i found out. By default the game uses the port 27005 to connect to a server. The problem is both of you are connecting using the same port and when the info returns the router does not know who to send it to.

In order to get by this you have to set your own ports to connect to the server. one of you can leave your computer alone. The other has to change the port you play on.

1. Open the games menu for steam.
2. Right click on counter strike and click "Create Desktop Shortcut"
3. Right click the new shortcut and click properties.
4. at the end of the Target line add "-ip_clientport 27006"(without the quotes) example: C:\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 10 -ip_clientport 27006     your line might be slightly different

if that doesn't work then use the command "-clientport 27006" instead.
Not sure which one will work, they both seem to do the same thing I think.

actually the command is +clientport

so the command line would be

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 10 +clientport 27006

also the port does not have to be 27006. It can be any number up to 65536 but I would stay between 27006 and maybe 29000 because other programs might use other ports.
