I have not had an issue with that type of scenario.  In fact I have not had an issue at all unless I asked too much of the computer as a whole.  Has been nothing to do with the OS.  I also just installed SP1 for Vista today since I have access to it via my MSDN subscription.  Public release is slated for the mid to end of March.  So far no issues with SP1 either.

Honestly, i luvd it. But one day i started getting that error msg. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled. Same Problem. Thought, maybe a card was bad. Took both 8800Gt 's out and put in that 8600gts. Reinstalled drivers and it was ok. Took out 8600GTS and put in one 8800GT. Was ok. Took it out and put in other 8800GT, and it was ok. Put them both in and it was ok. Enabled SLI and it was ok. 24 hours later back to the same problem. I tried to play tf2 2day and it wouldn't play. Back on xp and sli is rockin out now so i'm just gonna stick with this for a while.

So heres the deal. I may have jumped the gun a little bit and didn't' fully look into my problem. I get that way when the problem takes my team fortress away!!! Today I was gaming with smurf, video, holy-shit and tritt and i crashed twice. Video locked up with repeating sounds. Now this crash IS different from the one I was getting on vista but what i'm think is vista was able to recover from it and xp is not. Hence the "System has recovered from serious error." not always did it recover, sometimes i would get bsod and have to reboot. Anyways, to make a long story short i got to think that at idle my vid cards are running 70c. thats hot, especially for idle(to hot to even touch) So today while playing tf2 i decided to open up the side of my case and put in a desktop fan aiming directly at the vid cards. Vohla! no crashes in over two hours. I'm thinking that my problem with vista is related. I built this machine for SLI Vista64 DX10 gaming. Also, i never knew how my cards would run on xp so a part of me wanted to try it. The performance increase in FPS that everyone said I would get left something to be desired. As a matter of fact, I lost around 20fps average on xp then on vista64. I need to find some new fans for my two 8800gt vid cards and then i'm gonna reinstall vista64. next time i think i will do a little more research instad of wasting half a sunday reformatting and loading all my shit back up. Happy Gaming!

Rage,  What version of Vista 64 are you running?  I have a DVD that has SP1 integrated into it so that may help you load your system faster and it also has the fix for the 4GB of emmory issue when loading Vista Ultimate 64bit.  This is an OFFICIAL release from Microsoft and I have tried it and it is great.  This is much better then loading all the fixes after the OS loads.  Let me know and I will get you a copy of it.  The .ISO file is 3.8GB in size.

70 degrees is way hot and not even my 8800 Ultra idles that hot.  I think I idle at 60 - 62.

What program are you using for looking at the GPU Temperature?

Well I'm running Vista Home Premium, so your disc isn't gonna work. Thanks anyways.  I looked into upgrading to Vista Ultimate, and cheapest I found was like 159.00 to go from home premium to ultimate. On a website somewhere I read that vista ultimate handle gaming better. Not sure where I read it and i did search around for it and general opinon is vista64 is vista64. Ultimate has some extra features that I wouldn't' use anyways.

As for the card i posted about the new coolers I got and I hope they are able to work. My case could use some wiring work, but i've been lazy. May do that when I get my new vga fans. I am having them overnighted so they are here before the lan. Still haven't shipped yet (newegg.com) but they better get it out soon.

I have nTune and Rivatuner to view temps.

Crashed 3 times now trying to make this post. Let it sit and moved my fan around for better air flow. All I am doing is browsing the net and my idle temp is around 44c. thats with my pc sounding like a  fucken jet engine taking off with both fans at 100%. Dont care right now tho, cause it being loud is way better then burning up 600 in vid cards...

Actually my disk will work cause it covers, both versions of Home, Ultimate, and Business.  All on the 64bit side of things.  I will bring an extra copy of it to give you at the LAN Party.

I think you have already caused damage to the video cards and that is part of the issue.

44c is very cold.  Hell my 8800 Ultra idles at 60 - 62 celsius

well my cards idled at like 69 - 70c. I don't think i caused any damage as i have run video stress test on them both and have played both tf2 and cs for an hour or so on each card individually and I haven't had an issue yet. I think when they are both in my case it gets to hot and thats where i have my problem. with one card in, my idle temp is 43 - 44c and thats the coolest i seen it.  Newegg fuxed up and never shipped my coolers so no sli for me at the lan. They may get here Friday and if its b4 we leave I will bring them and put them on there. They did give my $25.63 off my replacement order so I got overnight shipping with rush processing for free.

And that disc would rock video so if you can that would be great. Thanks!
