Making Videos

If you would like to make a css or tf2 video you are going to need a very good computer. You will need at least a dual core processor and a video card that gets around 100 frames. The other thing is you are going to need a large amount of storage space. We are talking about 15-20 gigs for a 15 min video.

Programs You will need:

Fraps: http://www.fraps.com/

VirtualDub: http://www.virtualdub.org/

Xvid Codec: http://www.xvid.org/

Click Name to download.

All of these are free. Note: Fraps will only record 30fps and a limited record time unless you buy it $37.

Step One: Recording the demo

The first thing you will need to do is make sure your console is enabled for css/tf2. This is done by going to:

Options > Keyboard > Advanced > Enable console

Once you enable your console hit ~. This will bring it up you then type:

record Demo_Name

Close the console by hitting the x and start to play.

Once you are done recording hit ~. Then type in:

stop

Step Two: Setting up Fraps

Start Fraps. double click on it by the windows clock to bring it up. Once you have it up you will want to go to the FPS tab and disable the corner overlay unless you want to see the fps in your video. Then go the Movies tab and set your capture key this is what you will use to start and stop your recording.

Step Three: Playing back the demo

Start css/tf2. Then open up your console and type in:

demoui

Hit Load

Select your demo and hit ok

Your computer will lag when you hit load its ok.

As soon as it loads hit pause.

Hit Fraps Video capture Key

Hit resume then the x.

Once the demo finishes Hit Fraps Video capture Key again

Step Four: Compressing the video

Start Virtual Dub.

File > Open video file

Browse to the fraps folder under C:\Program Files\Fraps and open your avi

Video > Compression

Scroll down to Xvid > Select It > Hit Configure

Set Profile @ level to HighDef

Set encoding type to Single Pass

Click target quantizer

Slide the bar to 9708

Click calc button

Set target size to 716800

Set frames per second to 59.94

Under audio set format to MP3-CBR

Set Avg bitrate to 192kbps

Hit ok till you get back to just virtualdub

Then hit save as avi name it and hit save and let it do its work.
