Well in my other thread I listed my specs to my new PC I'm building, but I have another question and am looking for a little input.  Mr.L33t I seen from reading posts you are running Vista so input from you would be most appreciated. On my current rig I was averaging about 100 - 120 fps in CS: source and it would go to like 80 in Really heavy fire. Well I updated to vista and load up CS: source and I'm getting like 30 fps and lower. Its really bad. I did a  Google search for vista and cs source and from what I read its like 80 to 20. 80% of what I read said Hell no to vista and the other 20% said they got increase in performance. From all the test I have read it seems that vista stands to drop you about 30 fps or more. If my new rig runs the way I'm hoping then even if I average 150fps in source and lost 30, i would be ok with that and would keep running vista. It should run much better then 150, however, time will tell.  I also thought of maybe running xp till multi core processors are supported by the hl2 engine. Then maybe vista would run better.  Anyways, I'm just looking for some options and thoughts. Thanks!

Vista uses alot of horsepower for it's fancy bs even when you're running a game. Seeing as how you
are upgrading your pc ( im assuming the processor as well) then your fps should be as high if not higher than
before the upgrade.

P.s Vista sucks ass.

They wont admit it but most of the nay-sayers are running vista on their older systems with hardware and software not designed to run on the new os... Other than getting used to the new look, I have no complaints. My game performance is just as good if not better. So far, had zero issues using my older xp games. I bit the bullet got all high end stuff. Downside is it was expensive! I'm getting average 200+ fps depending on the action with vsync disabled @1680x1024

I kinda cheated a bit and bought a "pre-fab" pc from Circuit City, an HP m8120n. I got to looking and couldnt build the same thing for the $1100 price. It had the Q6600 quad, 3 gigs of ram, 2 300 gb hd in raid0 and a TV tuner. So I added a beefier psu, brought the ram up to 4 gb and a 8800 Ultra. All said and done I got a little over 2 grand in it and it still looks like a stock HP and not the refrigerator sized pc it replaces. If I were to give advice about your particular setup, looks like the only thing to do is max out the ram. Vista loves the ram like Earl loves beer  :-D

ok i have a question for anyone using vista. Does the glass sidebar have different shapes and stuff. Like on it kinda rounded on the end. All I have is this plain old square one and i'd like to change it but i do not know how. Google just dosen't help cause everything tells you how to add gadgets and thats not what I want. I want Alternative Glass Shapes for the vista sidebar. Are there any and if so how do i change it? Thanks

hers a quick pic of what mine looks like now on my new 22" widescreen monitor. I noticed MR|337s is different from my other post he posted a link to a pic of his desktop. I want my sidebar to look like that.

I'm running vista home premium. Other than adding the rss and quad core/memory monitor, thats it. Maybe you have a different version of vista?

LMAO!! I just noticed Fraggle has merciless gg sig! Change your player id on the sig Fraggle or change your name to merciless! Least you would be in the top 10 with no effort.... :-D

well i figured out my sidebar question. I went in and set the sidebar to always be on top of other windows and it changed to a solid glass sheet. If you lave it unchecked its faded like I want. Just thought I would let everyone know in case anyone else was wondering.

well i have vista and xp double booted.  vista runs steam fine for me.  my only issue with vista64 is either i use 2gigs with my SLI setup, or 4gigs in Single Card mode.  so far there is no fix for anyone using 79xx cards in SLI with 4gigs in vista.   i have 7900gtx 512mb, in single card mode i still pull 160fps in video stress test.  i rather have my 4gigs in vista.  vista is a memory hogg.
