Here is a quick list of things
1. Start the computer up in safe mode with networking, so you can get online. To do this, while the computer is starting keep pressing the F8 key. You will get a menu and can select your startup mode.

2. Go to your add/remove programs list and remove anything that remotely looks fucked up. If you are not sure take a screen shot and I will help. Any program that want to restart after removal, don't , wait till you are done removing things.

3. After removeing restart in normal mode. This will process some registry stuff that is required to finish removing those programs.

4. When done restart again in safe mode. go to the start menu then to run. type in "msconfig" (without the quotes) Click on the left side where it says startup. Uncheck anything that you do not want to start up. Also take a good screenshot and post it here so I can see what is running do not restart.

5. Run your virus scan and spyware software to cleen out anything else that might be around.

6. Restart and post back

Program called "hijack this" works pretty good. Many tech forums you can join and post up the hijack this log andthey will tell you what can be removed safely. I use adaware, spy bot, and CCleaner. Also have you defrag'd lately? I also use a program called "Startup Guard". Nice little program that will block unwanted program from starting at boot. I also do not like McAfee. If you want to buy one, but nortan. If not I used to use AVG Free when i was running 32bit os. It worked rather well.

well, if you do that and it dosen't work then you could try and format ur hdd. Its usually a no fail way to fix it. I reformat my pc an average of twice a year. This way i'm sure there is nothing in there that I do not want.  Make urself a set of Setup Discs with all the installs of the programs you use. I have about 6 dvd-rs and there all just setups. You can also backup the current version of css thru one of the steam menus. Not sure if you built ur pc or its a dell. I know dell gives you a disc that will format and set ur pc back the way it was when you bought it.

When you say hang how long are you talking about because even with my system if i boot into safe mode it will hang for a couple of minutes and then boot into safe mode.

Well without your XP CD your outta luck for doing anything unless you can borrow one from a friend.  agp440.sys is video driver file and is corrupted and is failing to load. Rather than going into Safe Mode Select Command Prompt. Once your at a dos prompt type the following.

chkdsk /R

It will take a while to run this as it checks the drive for errors and repairs whay it can. It's a long shot but about all you can do at this stage.  See if that works.  more than likely the only thing that is gonna work is below

If you can get a hold of an XP cd ( it would have to be the same as what you have installled ( XP Home or XP Pro)  or wait and get your original, then do the following:

1. Insert your Windows XP CD-ROM into the computer CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer from the CD-ROM.

Note Some computers may require that you modify the basic input/output system (BIOS) settings before you can start the computer from a CD-ROM. For information about how to modify the BIOS, see your computer documentation.
2. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. Press the number key that corresponds to the installation that you want to repair, and then press ENTER.
4. Type the password for the administrator account of that installation, and then press ENTER. You receive a drive:WINDOWS> prompt, where drive is the drive on which Windows XP is installed.
5. Type listsvc, and then press ENTER.
6. Make sure that the Agp440 service is listed, and that the startup type is set to "Boot".
7. Press ESC.
8. Type disable agp440, and then press ENTER.
9. You receive a message that the registry setting for this service was found, and that its current startup state is "service_disabled".
10. Type exit, and then press ENTER.
11. If you are prompted to start in Safe mode or Normal mode, start in Normal mode.
12. Log on to your computer.

XP should then boot up fine with it's default video drivers, once you get to that point you'll need to download the drivers for your video card and re-install them..

Any questions let me know.
