haha...

Isn't it the moon, wich forms the tides and such, which in turns make the wind currents?

ACOUPLEOFTHINGS.

thermodynamics.

The earth is heated unevenly and retains heat unevenly.  as gases heat up they expand.  this uneven expansion of gases creats high and low pressure systems.  everything goes from high to low, hot to cold, in a strive to hit equilibrium.  The high pressure system coming into equilibrium with the low is what wind is.  However, this wind system is heavily infulenced by an upper atmosphere phenomenon called the jet stream.  Google that one.  I forget, it's more complicated and it has to do with more global air mass differences  and super cold air in the upper stratosphere.

Then there's solar wind - ionization causes particle movement which moves the air molecules near it which create a breeze - think ionic breeze.

there you go.

Cole correction:  Cold air is more dense than hot air. the cold air will move towards the lower pressure area created by rising hot air. Cold to Hot.  Also the solar wind is a stream of particles emitted from the sun that cause the northern lights and interference with radio signals..  Doesnt affect air to create wind on the surface.

Correction dropkick:

Solarwind:  "Solar matter ejected from the Sun becomes the solar wind. It flies outward in all directions and includes charged particles -- electrons and protons. On a quiet solar day, the speed of the solar wind heading toward Earth averages about 400 km per second. That's about 900,000 miles per hour. The Sun is some 93 million miles from earth so it takes a particle in the solar wind around 103 hours to arrive at Earth. That's about four days"

Did you know that wind is considered an indirect form of solar energy? This is because the wind is driven mainly by temperature differences on the surface of the earth that are caused by sunshine.

what was i thinking.  man, i gotta lay off the crack. high engery to low.  brain fart.  sry.

the same phenomenon as solar wind causes the ionic wind effect, no?  I think not.  In the case of the ionic breeze thing, we are only talking about electrons and ozone.  in the case of the sun we are talking about radiation that will melt your face.

of course...

most energy on earth is a result of the sun in some way.  including life, but that is another story so put the bibles away.

now i'll have to go read up on solar wind.  I'm confused a little.  I know the jist of it, but not the specifics.

So wheres the correction?   I see you can cut and paste, but whats your point?  A stream of matter traveling through the vacuum of space is very different than air being heated and moved by infrared radiation from the sun.

i never implied that solar wind caused wind on earth.  i was just talking about the ionic breeze.  (the emitted stream must move some air particles but the "wind"effect is negligible.  The bombardment of air molecules is the northern lights.
