i would also say no. creating large gravitational fields would require us to be able to increase the mass of something without increasing it's volume. the magnitude necessary would destroy anything that tried to make it. so, no. you'd be more likely to prove out your theory by traveling around space looking for areas of very high mass singularities. Go into the black hole, and hey, maybe you won't die.
