Vegas before I give you some suggestions first I need to know what CPU and what RAM you plan on using and if its for a AGP ot PCI-e video card. Personlly I recommend AMD for the CPU and at least some Good DDR400 memory.

Go Asus or go home lol. The best site for computer parts in general is newegg.com the other thing u might want to look at is P5 processors makes for cheap strong processors. Also processor cache = god. 

Sry AMD Intel just passed you with their new 64 bit processors that have 2MB cache. If you dare tell me cache doesnt mean anything i will laugh in ur face for you do not know computers.

If you are looking to build a computer I can build it for you online and give you all the information and how much you are willing to spend and i will try my best. PS i just built a computer for 550 that runs CS:S half decent need a diff video card for good. IF you are willing to spend like 900 i can get you a kick ass comp. Assuming you dont need a new monitor/mouse/keyboard.

Actually privateer i base all of my information on 3 things breakability and price and experience.

Dude i have done nothing but repair peoples computers during college last year it was like every week i was fixing someone elseses comps.

IBM is one of the only brands that i have seen for laptops that dont break.

Others that i havent had any experience with is voodoo and falcon.

but trust me the ones that i listed are the ones that overall i have found the most reliable. Also most of the guys would probably agree that they are good brands. Oh and before smurf has a chance to bash maxtor all of my computers are running maxtor drives i havent had 1 problem my oldest one of them is from 99 so... Before they merged / took over quantom their hd had sucked but that was way back in like 97 - 98.

Seriously.  IBM are great laptops, but there are others out there that are very good.  You have to be a lot more careful in the laptop department because you really have to have balls to start messing with the internals, and unless you buy the right kind of lappy, you can't do much to it.  You can buy a barebones lappy and customize it yourself now.  ASUS and Sager, Samsung (well, not in America), and Clevo (Only Europe ) sell great barebone systems.  As for breaking them?  I don't know.  I've never broken one if you don't count frying the GPU cause I overclocked it and forgot to check my vents one week.  Boy did that suck.  But, it still works, so not all was lost.  As for the 64 intel thing.  Don't be so harsh.  Yes cache matters.  That's why the P-m's are so good.  But don't forget about latency.  Intel's 6xx series operate at 800 MHz.  AMD's 1.6 GHz, so there was no real passing done.  Especially that for the money, the AMD chips are really great.  They also benchmark better in games according to various sources to their intel counterpart.

Yeah i just did some more reading and it really comes down to they are still tied. Do you want higher FSB (AMD) or higher frequency (Intel). I guess its kinda like ATI and Nvidia one will never really surpass the other unless something really big happens.

Yeah and now that i was reading some more you can get a computer that will have a FSB of 1 Ghz which i dunno about you guys but i think that might just be a tad crazy.

Going to go build it and get the price.
