Here you go. Follow these instructions to self-perform and authenticate within the Gamesurge network using mIRC:
1. Install and run mIRC (
www.mirc.com)
2. Fill out the first screen you see, it should ask for stuff like
your name, email address, nickname and alternate nickname
3. The next screen should be titled mIRC Favorites. Make sure you
unclick the box at the bottom and then close this box. You don't want
this box popping up every time you start mIRC.
4. Go to View, Options, Connect, Options and make sure that the first,
second and fourth boxes are checked. The third box should remain
unchecked.
5. Go to View, Options, Connect, Options and click on Perform. Make
sure the box at the top is clicked. Hit the add button and select
Gamesurge. (Note that if Gamesurge is not on your list of networks, go to
www.mirc.com and download the latest servers.ini file and overwrite the existing servers.ini file in your mirc directory (or the directory where your mirc.exe file is located)). Add Gamesurge. Add the following lines to the large box
making sure that you have Gamesurge showing in the Network box above:
/nick whatevernicknameyouwanthere
/j #theelders
6. Now in the main Network window you will see a textbox at the
bottom. Type the following line and hit enter. This will bring you
into Gamesurge and if you entered the information correctly in the self
perform window you will automatically join our channel:
/s irc.gamesurge.net
Now each time you start mIRC it should automatically connect to
Gamesurge, set your username to what you included in the first line of
the perform list, and join you to the channels you entered
(#theelders and any other channel you want to idle)
7. Now go to View, Options, Display and make your Position "Left".
8. You can change your nickname at anytime by going to the Netwrok
window and typing in the textbox:
/nick whatevernicknameyouwanttochangetohere
There can be no spaces in your nickname.
9. I would suggest playing around with the option menu. You can set
mIRC to minimize to the tray, which is nice, and you can customize stuff
as well. You can send and receive files (called DCC) and you will want
to change your settings to what you want in the DCC options window. I
can walk you through how I have mine set later.
AuthenticatingNOTE: One thing you are going to want to do is "Register and Authenticate" a username. You will want to do this to receive special privileges in each channel and to be able to be added to channel user lists. If you do not authenticate, you cannot be named a coowner, master, op or peon in a channel. Now here a username is different than a nickname. A username is the name of the account you want with Gamesurge. Mine is HongKongPhooey. The username has nothing to do with the nickname(s) you will have in the mIRC channels (my nickname is TE|HongKongPhooey).
To Register:
1. Go to
http://www.gamesurge.net/createaccount/? and follow the simple instructions.
2. This will register your username with Gamesurge. You will receive
an email that has a cookie you need to activate. Just following the
instructions in the email to activate the cookie.
3. Once the cookie is activated you need to authenticate. To do this
you will need to type the following in the textbox at the bottom of the
Network window:
/msg AuthServ@Services.Gamesurge.net AUTH [account] <password>
Again [account] is the username you selected. Do not use the [ ]'s.
and <password> is the pasword you selected and you don't want to use the
<>'s.
4. Now you are authenticated. In order to make sure that you don't
have to type that authentication each time, you will want to add that
line in the self-perform window. So the big textbox in the perform
window (rememeber that is at View, Options, Connect, Option, Perform)
should read as follows:
/nick whatevernicknameyouwanthere
/msg AuthServ@Services.Gamesurge.net AUTH [account] <password>
/j #theelders
And now you should be all set. After following these instructions,
when you open mIRC, you will join Gamesurge automatically, your nickname
will be changed to what you want, your username will be authenticated
and you will join the Elders channels.
