5 years ago I quit smoking greenie 4 months before a pre-employment test.  I drank a gallon of poland springs everyday and rode an excercise bike 30 minutes every other day up to the test.  2 Weeks before the test I stopped working out to be safe.  I tested positive.  From that point foward I feel drug testing is complete bullshit and an unecessary invasion of privacy.  Companies pretty much only do it to decrease their insurance premiums.

This comes up for discussion since I turned down a job at Verizon since they said in the very end I'd need to take the test.  They weren't too happy about my ethical standards!  I would have passed (I hope so after 5 years!) but I held my ground!

Open for discussion...thoughts?

I voted no, but I think drugs are great.

I think it's a term of employment.  I was in the same situation and passed.  However, I took a different approach and timed it out and shut down my metabolism.  This is how those "pass the test drinks" work.  It sucks that you failed, and you should have passed.  I don't think it's an invasion of privacy, because you have a choice not to take it.  You also have legal recourse if you press the issue, but that would probably work.

However, the tests are bullshit, because they really only test for hardcore herion/opiates and meth and coke addicts, and casual and hardcore potheads.  The meth/coke/opiates group are pretty obvious and a test is not needed.  Casual users in this group will not get picked up in a test if they abastain for a couple days.  The potheads...well, it depends on freqauency of use, body fat percentage, metabolism, etc.

So, I take the tests, and have cheated on them.  I have no need to now, but every time I've ever switched companies, I have to take the test.  I also agree to via contact to be tested at a whim...It's in the fine print.  This will never happen, because most people have tried and like pot, and know what bullshit it really is.  But, it's one of those things for the terms of employment that is a norm, and there's nothing you can do about it if you want to work for a big company.

Go take the test and pass it.  Then light one up and piss in the coffee the next day.

So, there you are, and the USMC, forgot to test some marines for drugs.....lets call them the Bob crew, and the bobs are sitting firewatch(on duty awake when others are asleep to keep others asses alive) and they start doin drugs right there, how can you explain that to the parents if the firewatch was unable to do their jobs due to drugs and cost marines their lives?? to me, it makes no sense!

LOL.  I'm not saying drugs should be allowed while working!!!  The case of the morons toking it up on watch duty is NOT what I'm talking about.  They should be shot for treason.

I'm talking about a test that you take BEFORE you get a job (or join the service).  These tests are bullshit.  They do not say if you are high right then (vs. being high a month ago) and certainly don't say anything about whether or not you will be high at work the next day.  The tests also do not say anything about how well you can do your job.  In fact, most of the morons that these tests are meant to weed out actually know how to beat them and get the job anyway.  If these companies really had a "policy" against drugs, they would continue to test after you start your job - which the majority don't.  Essentially, pre-employment drug testing allows companies to get a break on liability insurance and weeds out some addicts that are too stoned to try to beat the test.

It is truly an unfair practice.  You have Henry Anslinger to thank for all of the propaganda that most "average" Americans believe.  The political machine is a very powerful thing.  So is the ignorance of the masses.  (Resistance is Futile)

Read this book if you're intrested in the absurdity of consentual crimes....

What's wrong with that?  Who cares, as long as you're not stoned in a dangerous situation.  Just take a little LSD and no worries.  It'll wake you right up.
