Soldiers reduced to using paintball gear: report.

Canadian soldiers testing their fighting skills in a rare urban exercise were forced to rent commercial paintball weapons because they could not get proper army gear, a newly disclosed document shows.
The unusual paintball battle was fought in the Halifax area last February, as the army practised helicopter evacuations in a hostile urban setting.
Four Griffon helicopters ferried troops from the Halifax Commons across the harbour to an unused military housing complex in Dartmouth where room-to-room searches were conducted.
An internal report on Exercise Sky Trooper says the "venues provided the maximum ammount of realism achievable for the contemporary operation".
But the faux evacuation was marred when soldiers were unable to use their army-issue practice ammunition, which fits into their rifles but fires only low-speed powder balls, leaving a harmless mark on the target.
Known under the trade name Simmunition, the 5.56-calibre soft bullets are manufactured by SNC Technologies Inc.
Soldiers need to wear special protective gear when using Simmunition, including helmets with face protector, but a shortage of supplies meant there were none available for Exercise Sky Trooper.
So troops were forced to lay down they C7-rifles, and pick up commercial paintball guns, rented locally. They also rented commercial paintball helmets, with face masks and neck protectors.
"The paintball  did add limited realism to room clearing, (but) Simmunition is clearly superior and will hopefully be available for future exercises," says the report, obtained under Access to information Act.
The army's limited supply of Simmunition protective gear had been reserved for higher-prority training operations in other parts of the country, the document says.
An army spokesman says the appopriate protective gear is on order for the Atlantic headquarters in Halifax, but still has not arrived.
Major Chris Lemay also said the 150 soldiers who participated, most of them reservists, could have used blanks in their C7 rifles but the operation would have been less realistic because blanks give no indication whether or not a target has been hit.
"The exercise had to do with house clearing -- you kick the door open and fire," Major Lemay said. "With blanks, you're not sure you're doing the right thing because you dont know if you hit your enemy."
The Halifax exercise was to prepare for an annual winter trek to Fort Pickett, Va., where Canadian soldiers train alongside their U.S. counterparts for a week.

so yeah... like I said many times our army is a fucking JOKE

According to the newest report, the Halifax force would rent the TE servers for the next exercise, besides of saving more cost, at least, the solders will KNOW whether they hit the enemy.

Let's rush hard and die soon!

I can't believe the Canadian Army is big enough to have an Atlantic HQ. It almost sounds like they have more than one. Nahhhh!

Hey Night, we should talk to the Prime Minister about helping to pay for the 1.6 server. On second thought, we can't have the Canadian army getting PWNd by a bunch of 13 year olds, never mind. LOL

its ok, you might wonder as to why they werent able to get all of the proper equitment, well i found out why.  canadians are poor. its a known fact.  with an economy based on lumberjacking and stamp collections its difficult to keep the currency afloat.  I once visited canada and saw their equivalent of fort knox, but it was filled with stamps and axes and flannel shirts. tsk tsk for thinking those things would actually accumulate value. :(
