So I am in the market for a new laptop, but I'm not trying to spend too much money, the max would be like $700 any suggestions or recommended items that I must have...I don't know much about Vista so I don't know what it needs.
thanks in advance!

Asus m51 is what I'm using...good for gaming.  I get over 100 fps in CS and can play TF2 and COD:WAW better than expected.  Battery life is about 2 hours in battery saving mode.  The 9500GM sucks down the power pretty good.  It was $1100 when I got it, but it's been worth it to me.

If you want to get a quality laptop, the extra 100-200 bucks makes a HUGE difference.

I don't see my laptop on newegg anymore, but I see some with comparable specs ( even better ) for 900.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16834220459

this one is priced at 800...looks pretty good too.  one reviewer said they play COD4 on med settings with 65 fps

Onlything I can complain about is the RAM.  4GB would have been nice, but 3 will do.

looks like a pretty sweet deal.  couple of things to consider:
1. get 64 bit vista (i have only used it on desktop, not laptop, but feel that the more RAM the better for vista
2. upgrade to 4GB RAM
3. how expensive is 7,200 RPM hard-drive...if only a few bucks then consider upgrading
4. may need to add some sort of support option like a 3 year plan or something -- laptops are super finicky so imo should always get dell support option
5. consider getting the extended life battery - that is a very subjective decision
6. make sure to pay the $20 extra or whatever that allows you to get the actual install disks for vista

Yea if you don't like being tied down by constantly lugging around your AC adapter, I'd look into getting the 9-cell battery for that laptop, preferably on ebay since Dell likes to charge a premium for everything
