Well, my mobo took a dump. The lights come on and the fans spin a quarter turn when I push the power button. I've trouble shooted the hell outta it and looked on many forums to find out it's a problem with a batch of XFX 680i LT boards from tigerdirect. I just hope noobinhoods dont do the same thing as we both got ours from there within a month. So till I get a new board, I'm bound to my laptop and office pc. Shouldnt take long, I just cant decide to rma or get a new 780 and sell the old one once it is repaired.

I have the 780i and love it.  Hadn't had any problems with the board, and it runs great.  The only thing is though, I have heard that on some of the boards the heat pipes are slightly off causing it to heat alittle more than it should, but I do not know if they have fixed that problem yet.  Over all a great board and you can run tri sli.   :-o

I may just get an EVGA version of the same one I have. Wanted the 780 - but I would have to get new memory because the lowest it supports is 800Mhz and I'm pretty sure mine is 533Mhz.

EVGA has a lifetime warranty too..

I would getthe EVGA board of the 680i chipset and do not get the LT version.  Get the Full 680i Version.  You will be much happier.

This is the one I'm looking at
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2945260&CatId=2014

I did find out the 780 will use 533Mhz memory and theres not a lot of difference in prices.

What do you think?

get the one for $209.  there is no need for 780 chipset unless you are gonna triple SLI and that requires 3 GTX or ULTRA cards which it way too expensive and you do not gain much at all from all the tests I have seen done.

Leet if you were previously using the 680i chipset regardless of LT or not the RAM should work with the 780i. The big difference with the 780i is that it has the 3x 16X PCI-Express solt.

Video the 9800GTX will also have triple SLI capabilities. The nice thing about the 780i board is that is has three 16x slots rather then two 16x and one 8x now this means that it give you more flexibility as far as placement is considered.

and with the 9800GX2 you can put two of them in and have QUAD SLI.  There is no need for 3 full speed PCI-Express Slots.

It extends flexibility for overall system configurations, as well as god only knows what newer hardware will be coming out. With Crossfire X I see nVidia doing something similar, yes they have Hybrid SLI but its not nearly as developed as Crossfire X. Plus 680i chipsets are becoming more and more rare.

P.S Remember how poorly Quad SLI worked for the 7950 GX2.......

Like snyper said, there is more flexibility, the board is newer, had 3xPCIx 2.0, And the 780i has the same chipset as the 680 I think.  For the extra $60, I think its worth it.  Planning for the future.

I got the EVGA 680 A1 version. I dont plan on doing 3 way sli.

I also got 4 gigs of 800Mhz sli ram like Deathhaven got for his board.

I used to buy from the egg, but they changed shipping policies on me. My billing address isnt the same as shipping. They wont ship to me now and lost a good customer.

I plan on rma'ing the old xfx through xfx and selling it and the 4 gigs of 533Mhz ram I have now.
