"Fix your rates!"

A few TE people came in the GG server and started telling a bunch of people to fix their rates, I was among them.

My questions are as follows-
1) How do you "fix your rates"?
2) Why do I need to fix my rates if I've never messed with them before?
3) What exactly do they do?

1) cl_cmdrate 100, cl_updaterate 100. rate 25000 this is the generic the cmd and update rate should match your fps
2) some servers force rate changes onto your config and it will save that way
3) the make your screen look normal but you lag on every1 elses is the problem

why dont we just make our servers force those rates? then we wouldnt have to bother checking them

Problem with that is you have to have that server command variable set to 0 in order to have the server change your rates. Alot of people have it on these days so the server cannot change their rates. Also, not to make elite look like a loser, ,  but the default rate is 9999 i believe and the others are what he said. If you want to know about rates, I have written a section on how to set them in this forum. Just do a search on rates.

Problem with that is, some people use different rates that compliment their framerate/isp connection speed. Something like this would detract from people coming to our server. I myself do not use these rates and to be forced to would be...well, bad.
