Tell me about it.....the largest mass killing in american history. My best friends little sister was in the classroom where that guy blocked the door with desks and held it closed and that asshat tried to shoot through the door. Its just a shame how easy it is to get a handgun in this country.  :bs:

A kid that went to my school was a first year grad student at VA Tech and was one of those killed. I didn't know him but damn, that fucking sucks.  :-(

im sorry...but i REALLY have to say this...i mean REALLY....if u get emotional over the VT issue, then stop reading now...just keep mind i went there...

So as you all know there was a shooting at Virginia Tech and 32 people died... i sympathize with everyone there and their families. I knew a couple of people who go to school there, and i dont know if they were one of the ones hurt or not. regardless of how tragic this event is, and how unfortunate it is that it happened, i have to say this. this has been bothering me. this may offend some people, so if you are extremely emotional about that situation, then dont read this:

32 people dead. 32 college students gunned down in class. half of them were probably hung over from the night before. 32 people die nonetheless, and it is nationwide headline news. the biggest story of the week. the nation is in mourning because 32 people that 99% percent of the country did not know, died in school. however, when you read about 32 US Soldiers dying in Iraq, or Afghanistan by gunfire, or carbombs, or suicide bombers, all it is is a 30 second skit, and maybe a post on the marquee at the bottom of the screen. am i the only one that has a problem with this? people are sacrificing their lives, and the life they could be leading with their family, just so americans can enjoy the freedoms they abuse and take for granted. we get low pay, long hours, and burnt morale, so that we can risk our lives for your freedoms. but does the country mourn when we die? only the family members. we are merely a number to the rest of the country. 1,300+ US Soldiers have died since Sept 2001 when we set foot in iraq. how many students have been gunned down since that time frame? how much footage and airtime was shown in their memory. what about us? where is the respect we deserve? do we get the same headlines over our tragic deaths? our deaths which are far more gruesome. the ones that affect more than just mothers and fathers. some of us have wives, husbands, children, even grandchildren. but we dont get the coverage or respect that these 32 students have gotten. They are the same as us. they are humans. god decides it is our time to go. either you make headline news about EVERYONE or no one. dont make it a big deal just because it was students.

sorry i may be an asshole....but that is my point of view...my point of view being in iraq for the 3rd time...my point of view as a husband to someone who like a lot of americans, take their liberty for granted...it is my point of view as someone who has seen people die in combat, but all that was on the tv was 30 seconds saying americans are dead...no mourning, no sorrow... no headline news...i may be an asshole, or a douche or whatever, but that is my opinion, and that also of many many other soldiers out here right now tired of hearing mourning over people who will probably do nothing with their lives.

Preach on brother shmotz you are so right. All you ever hear is well another 10 soldiers died today by a roadside bomb and heres the weather forcast. I agree that the people who help protect our country and keep us free and safe dont get a quarter the respect they deserve. What can we do to help? Is there anything we can do as citizens to help change this please if there is let me know because I would be proud to help dedicated soldiers like your self get the credit, respect and recognition you all so deserving of. Stay safe bud

Fuck you shmotz you flaming fag. Students go to school to get an education, they are supposed to be safe on campus. Soldiers KNOW there putting themselves in harms way. Its not the same at all, yea so 32 people died, everyones human, so its all the same? thats some bullshit, theres a huge difference between getting killed during war or getting killed on a college campus in the middle of bumfuck virginia. Shut your ignorant ass up

It's really just a matter of exposure, I remember back in 2001 when entire news segments were dedicated to the war in Iraq and at the end of the news they would list the names of the people who died. But over time the nation became desensitized to it, we expected it to happen and just brush it off. I live right outside of Philly and everyday on the news i hear about some murder and just go right on through the channels without even thinking about it. The news is naturally going to broadcast something like this because its never happened on this scale before. They do it for the ratings and it captivates the audience, especially students, because they sit and think what the fuck would I have done if that happened at my school. I can't say I disagree with you in that the soldiers get little recognition of what really goes on over there but thats because of the liberal media, its out to get ratings not tell the nation the truth, if this were not the case Anna Nicole Smith would not have ruled the news for a month.

As far as the VAtech shooting goes it was a horrible and shocking thing that happened, because of what lax said its completely unexpected, I expect to be safe on my campus hungover and play frisbee or football. The news grabs onto that since it has the shock, whereas like I mention Iraq has lost it, all Americans want to hear about now is we are leaving Iraq, until then its just the same old bullshit everyday, car bomb kills 25 people, suicide bomber kills 180 in local markets, I can basically predict the news now

So Let It Be Written, So let it be Done

I agree with you shmotz but also with lax in his recognition of the students. Even though the circumstances are different, we are still talking about people dying here. 32 students, 1300+ soldiers. They should all have their equal share of mourning and recognition. Granted it is alot harder to get footage of the bullshit going on in Iraq, but there should be a weekly or even nightly spotlight on the networks (for lack of a better word here) showcasing the lives lost in a bullshit war. It is not like these men and women volunteered to go fight a fucking war.

as far as i see it, most everyone who goes to college is trying to make something of there life. Ya'll dumbfuck enlisted fuckers are the ones who usually end up going nowhere and doing nothing with your lives. Dont be hatin on college students because they wanna better there life. Im not sayin i dont appreciate what ya'll do over there and shit, but when you make statements like you have it makes you looklike an ignorant tool.
