When somebody's throat is cut, he is actually likely to gurgle and thrash around for some period of time until the oxygen in his brains run out, usually creating a lot of noise in the process. The real method is to slam the knife upward at 45-degrees into the indent at the base of his or her skull (the bone there is thin). This scrambles the medulla oblongata, and cuts off the motor senses instantly. It is a much more merciful and painless method compared to being stabbed/slashed.
