Just got new modem, faster connection but a lot of choke!

Hey guys, well b4 I was averaging speeds of 1 mb on my dsl modem. Now I got a all in one wireless modem/router but I am not using the wireless feature yet. My speed now is about 1.5. My ping on your server when I press tab has been cut in half, b4 it was 60 to 75 and now its at 30 to 40! I was quite surprised! But my choke, which never went above 1, now sky rockets every once in awhile to 45!!! I don't think this is normal, do I have to change any settings?? my settings are at dsl greater than 256k, do I have to change that? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Choke  / loss has alot to do with rate settings.  Check out this thread, It may help you  http://theelders-cs.net/forum/index.php?topic=1304.0

everybody has to play with ther settings to see what best... mine it depends on the time of the day

but choke is mostly becuase of updaterate

so these i recomend.. you can go higher and lower just keep an eye on your graph and leave it be for a few to test it out

cl_updaterate 60
rate 25000
cl_cmdrate 65


try these.. if you get choke lower the update and the cmdrate by 5 till you get non or 0-5

Ok so I put the rates that Huddy mentioned and tried out a server and my choke went up to 4 only once  . Now this is a very noobish question: do I have to type these rates everytime I join a server or steam or does it stay at the rates until I change them again?
