rank and place??? help

Why are the rank and place different on tf2 i type in rank and it say something like rank 1234 out of 3024 but if i say place it tells me im 122 out of 13,987... whats the difference

Rank = mani stats
place = HLstatsX

if you guys disable the mani stats in the mani cfg on the server hlstats should take over the rank command.
