Yeah the voltage is up at 1.312

It only really got up to the upper 60's during the 3dmark vantage CPU benchmark, though, so I don't feel it was doing anything real bad. :P During l4d2 it was hanging around 61-62.

consider either lowering your voltage or if you need to run that voltage for some reason, upping the speed since you are already paying the heat penalty, might as well see how high you can go without stability issues.  Remember to adjust RAM speeds down to compensate for increased FSB.

adjust RAM speeds down? I could have sworn you're supposed to adjust them UP, not only from what I have read, but because my motherboard clocks the RAM up to 881MHz.

Also, 3.30 GHz @ 1.232V brings me to a max of 65C with Prime95

Speed of RAM is driven by two things i) FSB and ii) multiplier (ratio of RAM speed to FSB)

So if you want to run RAM at the same speed, say 1066, pre OC vs. post OC, as you raise the FSB to OC your CPU, you have to reduce the multiplier (aka strap) to ensure that your RAM is not running faster than 1066.

Lmk if it doesn't make sense and I can just walk you through this stuff live on the phone / vent.

This is better!  Does CPU stay stable at higher speeds with this voltage?

It does. It booted earlier at 1.275, but then wouldn't later. Next step up (1.232) seems to be working just fine.

I think you guys cpus are running a bit hot...I known Intel and AMD run at different temps and with different vcores, but when my X3 720 was @ 3.5ghz (1.4275 I was sitting around 45C prime95...(with the Black Knight as cpu cooler)  that might be the difference.

From VIP to RIP

What the fuck is this shit???

Intels run hot, yes. The tcase of the e8400 is 72.4C, and the tjunction is 100C
The tcase on that processor is 53C....not sure what the tjunction is.

will be building a new comp this weekend, so I will be able to get back into gaming. Though it is on a budget.

NZXT Case
Asus M4A87TD/USB3
XFX Radeon HD 5750 1gb ddr5
730watt PSU
AMD Phenom x6
4gb ram
500gb main drive
dvd burner
liquid cool heat-sink for cpu (thought I would try something new)

This just barely kept the wife from killing me.
