Title: New Web site
Post by: WidowMaker on May 05, 2011, 12:43:19 PM
Think it's time for a re-design. We will keep our forums, but I think it is time to create a new site with the forums on our site rather than the site from the forums. Seems some stuff was upgraded with the tiny portal which is what I used to add the blocks and articles to the web site. It broke for some reason so I upgraded the forum to the latest and greatest so all those articles and links are now history, as well as our admin section.

So time for a re vamp on the site so let me know your suggestions and I will get to work.

Also, those who are good with graphics, get going with them so we can implement some new content to the site.

A brief welcome page for new comers telling a little about us.  (IE: when we were founded, what we are about/stand for, etc) Also a list of members/owners/division leaders.  Now is a great time to update our list of members and get it right, focus on the active ppl, and those who are still around.  Redo the list with the little icons on it for the games we all primarily play.  I can composite this list if you would like.  I say we leave most of the graphics stuff up to Crazy ( no offense to anyone else I just know he is really good with this kind of stuff and i'm not sure if anyone else is or not.)

I'm ok with Graphics, but not good with ideas.

Here's a logo that looks like the old one. I can redesign another one if need be.

Ditto.

I touched up the old logo, so I'm willing to take a stab any any ideas anyone has.

Just asking a question here because idk much about this stuff. Does any graphic other than default cause the sight to load slower?  I have noticed lately that it has been pretty slow, but it could be on my end lol.

On another note, I do agree that we could take a look at some of the graphics and layouts and see if the need an updating.  I wish I could help or even play a few games, but however I have 4 weeks left of school for the quarter and have 2 to 4 exams a week and have no extra time to help render any graphics, which i would like to help with.  I will keep checking in here, but being on steam might be rare (Crazy knows how this goes lol)

I TF2 color scheme would be great, based on the colors of the official website.

Ok, to me a big part of sites are the layout mainly of the homepage; easy to see and navigate.

These are 3 I found that I personally like. Granted the graphics would be changed to reflect our clan, colors and games we play.

http://www.astclan.com/
http://clan3d.com/
http://www.clanaur.com/

I  like the first one best.

From the links Fraggle posted, I think an incorporation of the logo of the second one ( like the letters and CS/TF2 guys on ours ) and the first link would be really nice.   I'm good with visualizing and organizing for aesthetic and symmetrical purposes.  I'll be happy to give any input if anyone just wants to bounce some ideas around.

I started putting this together.

http://theelders.net/newsite/

Just the home, roster, and forum links work right now. I wanted to get some feedback before I got into it too deep.

Post your comments here and let me know what you would like to see.

The news scroller comes right from the forums frontpage board. So whatever you post there will show up on the front page.

Also if someone can come up with a good image for the header instead of the engineer let me know and post it here and it should be a jpg or a png file

Hey Widow, make sure you test out the site in different browsers. I'm seeing all sorts of strange things in Chrome/other things in Firefox.

Also, when I'm not logged in, there's a bunch of errors on the main page.

Crazy, I saw the same thing then tried something. All my bookmarks go to the forum/index section by default and load it up strange.

I used all 3 browsers. Then tried typing just the main page  Theelders.net   and it came up fine on all 3. I suggest everyone
update their link or shortcut if you're having this issue.

Are you talking about the errors? I never see that in Chrome (which I normally use), which is always logged in. What I *do* see in chrome that is very annoying is this: http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/3302/59c2b216057243fa991ada3.png

I am working on it everyday. I got most of the stuff fixed. Just have to look into some IE fixes for the menus and stuff. While experimenting it looks like firefox and chrome render the pages as they should and IE, as usual, fucks them all up.

Can we put back on there the option to stay logged in 'forever'?  It took me like 5 tries to remember my stuff.  I am so use to already being logged in and staying that way.

It might be something with your cookies, because mine stays logged in. Anyone else having the same issue?

I'm still logged in forever from before the change.

On a different topic, can we get some kind of CAPTCHA for the signup? We have another spambot in the general section. This is like, the third one this month.

Also I cannot find the link to donate via paypal
If that is still on the website, I can't find it.
So it needs to be on the main page, pretty clear and available.

And I kind of need to get my payment in, in the meantime does anybody have the link so I can get that done?

Website is extremely slow for me now. I like the new layout stuff, though it appears rather incomplete.

But the site and forums are crawling. =\
