Title: Infinity Ward planning to remove dedicated servers, use peer-to-peer matchmaking

46,000 angry PC gamers are petitioning against Infinity Ward's decision to drop dedicated online servers from Modern Warfare 2.

Speaking to site BashandSlash, community man Robert Bowling revealed that the PC sequel would be opting for a console-like matchmaking system via IfinityWard.net rather than the traditional option, thus sending the community absolutely loopy.

If this isn't changed, I doubt there will be competitive MW2, and obviously, we won't have a server.

Hmmm, that could be bad...I WAS getting ready to pre-oreder this, but if it goes this way I guess I'll be saving $60 because I won't be buying it. Think I'll hold on to my money until I know for sure.

I'm not buying it for PC if there is no dedicated server.  What pc game isn't a dedicated server that has had success?  It just sounds stupid to me.  We're definitely bringing CS back!

Look's like IW has gotten in bed with Valve. :P

After reading your link there are too many variables to let a regular player host a private match.  Hosting should be left to the dedicated servers where people do this often and can do a good job of it.  I have a feeling this will lead to a very non-personal experience and will hit some gaming communities hard.  It will definitely cut out the potential of recruiting.

If this is what's going to happen, looks like the COD series is done for good. No one is going to play it. Very disappointing, but hey, that leaves more time for L4D2 and the next great shooter thats sure to come out to replace COD.

I don't know what to do now, I've already paid off my preorder, and I would like to play the single player, but I'm really pissed off by this.

I canceled my preorder, but I probably will still pick it up for the SP.

My biggest problem with this, is that it's going to make the PC community like the fucktard Xbox Live community. It took me awhile to find a TF2 server that I liked, but that's not even gonna be possible for MW2. You'll just be stuck with whatever retard ends up in your match. *sigh*

If it's true I'm not buying it and I think that the rest of the PC community should follow suit. PC' players made COD what it is today and if they don't recognize that or address their concerns, then they don't deserve our money.

I don't think they are going to change it. I canceled my preorder and got my money back. F them.

Yeah, fancy words to try to sell an inferior product to informed consumers.

this whole thing beyond pisses me off they don't like the fact that we have our own server rules but now we're forced to play it how they want us to play it i don't give a shit how p2p supposedly runs compared to dedicated servers, o cool so p2p can match us up on how good we are....how the f am i suppose to learn and get better when everyone is the same player level in the game??? and P2P will most likely make it impossible to let all TE members who have it to play in the same game at the same time, this is the biggest load of crap and a good way to shoot them selves in the foot, that petition is almost up to 130,000...at $60 a pop thats $7,800,000 they will probably lose out on how fin stupid are they???? :flamed: :dontknow: :thebirdman: :headbang: :angelfire:

if i wanted to play p2p ied buy it for 360 or PS3

half of those people, if not more, will STILL buy this game... just because PC is going to p2p, doesnt mean everyone is going to boycott it... puttin your name on an online petition is one thing, but actually carrying out the threat of not getting it is another... i dont think some people have the balls to do that... besides, coming from a person who has played cod4 and WaW on all 3 platforms...i honestly prefer p2p....no fuckin homo admins that like tyrant the servers, and you can still party up with 6 or so players and still be on the same team...

I'm headed back to ebgames on sat to cancel my preorder.

I suggest to get a head count of current owners of the previous games mw1 and waw, and put a vote on which one should have a DEDICATED server thrown back up.
I personally have fun with waw, but mw was better.

If no one wants to use the resources for a server,  then vote on 3-4 popular good servers to link to so we can play together easier.

I like:   http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/64.34.183.11:28960/
No crazy admins, no restrictions, runs great... feels like an elders server. I'm ranked 119 out of 56,000.

I've been considering putting the W@W server back up because I still play a lot.

fair enough yes that's one thing i like about p2p is not dealing with retarted admins...but then you just have to deal with stupid people that you cant kick lol, i understand why they are doing it, mostly against hacking/cheating but there's gotta be another way
