when you save the photo, select the drop down menu on the bottom and select jpeg?

Now that the file is saved, make sure you hit save as =)
Also you can open whatever document you want in Notepad and then append the suffix .jpg to the file name.

Nimrod, paint only does bitmaps. You will need some other program to do it. If you want one go here

Actually Paint allows you to save it in different formats.  You can do .jpg in it also.

Here's another fan of ObjectDock. I normally keep it on autohide, it's expanded in the screenshot. If you can't tell I like to keep my desktop extremely clean.

it's the Object Desktop Windows Blind called Arzo. Wondows blinds has a demo that you can use forever, it just has limited things, or you can torrent it.
