This will be my new crack. And I am essentially spending close to $1000 to play it. I mean, I NEED a new rig since mine blew the fuck up, but the timing on when I'm building is not a coincidence.

So if you guys HAVEN'T heard, EA is being a bitch about Steam. They don't want Valve to get ANY money from their DLC, and since Valve requires that all games with DLC on Steam must sell the DLC via Steam, EA decided not to sell B3 on Steam.

Additionally, Battlefield 3 will require EA's 'version' of Steam called origin.

idk about you guys, but I really don't want two digital distribution clients installed on my system, when one is just for games from EA, most of which aren't so good anyway...

You, I'd prefer it to be on Steam, I'd be a much happier person if I could buy it on Steam. The situation sucks, but I think it's highly irrational to no get a game that's going to be that kick ass just because it's not available on your distribution platform of choice. Yes, it's a separate install, but for a game that I'll be playing as much as this one, it's a small price to pay.

On the bright side, when steam goes down as it does sometimes Battlefield will still be playable.  :)

Except there's no in-game server browser so when Battlefield's website goes down you can't play battlefield.

Every game connects to SOMETHING for multiplayer. If that SOMETHING goes down then people won't be able to connect. It doesn't really matter if the browser were in the game or not, all MP games have those issues. As an aside I nearly shit when I first heard what they did with the server browser but reports from people that were in alpha make the situation sound much more hopeful, maybe even better than the old server browser.
