So I am considering getting a pair of nice speakers to pair with my wife's ipod and my mp3 player (iriver). The three contenders so far are:
1. Bose SoundDock II -- a bit expensive...is it worth the premium?
2. Klipsch iGroove SXT
3. JBL OnStage 400P -- a bit big for my taste
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Bose is never worth the premium, go with the Klipsch.
Seriously, Bose used to be fantastic, but then they became the favorite of every yuppy that wanted other people to think they knew something about sound. And now it's everywhere and the only reason you pay out the ass is because yuppies say it's awesome.

I am no yuppie by any means, but you do pay for the sound. Granted the premium is not always worth it. All depends on the usage. For an iPod or mp3 player that is not using any kind of surround, I would not go with Bose either. But their sound systems are incredible.
I agree the price is ridiculous for Bose, but the sound some of the systems produce is quite nice! Granted I am basing my opinion on hearing system setups at retail stores where conditions were created to make the system sound it's best. My brother does own a Bose wave radio and it does sound excellent.
