Title: mouse suggestion?
Post by: Baltika (#9) on June 11, 2009, 06:48:39 AM
I'd like to replace my MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 with something newer and with a higher cpi/dpi.

I'm looking for feedback on the mouse (mice) that you own/use.

Requirements:
Wired
USB
>400 cpi/dpi
<=$50

If you like yours, what do you like about it?
If you have something that you don't like, I'd like to hear from you too.

I would  recommend the Logitech G5 Laser Mouse (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104076). I's a 5 button mouse with 2000 DPI (adjustable on the fly in game) with a 1000 report rate and has adjustable weights and a highly ergonomic design.

It's only $50 now (I paid a bit more when it first came out). I upgraded to this from the MX518 (same shape and optical) and I pwn with it and you can too  :-D

I have had the following:

Logitech G5
Logitech G9
Razer Lachesis

I like the Logitech mice better.

Have the Logitech G5 - very happy with the mouse.  Good DPI; love ability to adjust weight; good quality construction and wire

I don't play sniper or anything that takes super-precision, etc. so take my comments for what they are worth

Thanks for all the feedback.  I swung by my local used-to-be-tiger-direct-is-now-comp-usa and picked up a G5.
@Taylor is still owning me this afternoon - I know it's going to take some time to get used to the new mouse.

(For all you forum readers in the future, assume that I like the mouse, unless I post a reply w/ a problem)

I upgraded from a Razer Diamondback to a Logitech MX518. I love it. The side buttons are very easy to use, compared to the razer. It's VERY light (the box felt empty when I got it), and I love light mice, since it gives me the ability to be much more agile.

The reason I went with the mx518 instead of the g5 is because it was optical. The Razer Diamondback was infrared, which did not work well on shiny surfaces (like a finished piece of wood you would have on your desk.). I never had a laser mouse, but a guy who lived near me last semester had a G5. It felt the same as the MX518, but I did not notice much of a difference.

Logitech is the way to go for an FPS mouse.  I love my G3...I'm keeping it until it breaks or the G5 comes down under 30$

Give the guy a break, he had to sell a lot of oranges and mangoes to buy that mouse and those hacks.

I have owned both the MX 518 and the G5 ... I love both mice... they both work great i am currently using the G5, one of the side buttons on my MX 518 developed a short and only works when tapping it, not holding it in (it was my talk key for vent)... lol so it got used and abused a lot... but everything still works great on the mouse, i had it for 2.5 years before it wore out on me so i cant complain

now my only comment on the G5 is that the braided sheath that is wrapped around the cable of the mouse had worn through after about 6 months of use, the cable underneath the braided sheath is just like a normal mouse cable so it still works amazingly... its not really a complaint, jut makes a sweet looking mouse look well not so sweet...lol... just got to cut the sheath off and let the wire be shown (in case you were wondering, the wire underneath is black just like the sheath lol)... I do have to say that i like the G5 better than the MX 518 but like i said before they are both great mice!!!!

I've used the Razer Copperhead and Diamondback mice and they just don't have as good a feel (shape) as the Logitech.  No doubt they have a good dpi/sensor and good movement.  I just have a personal preference towards Logitech after trying both.

I haven't had any problems with the G5, don't know any that have other than you. There quality is usually at a very high standard. You must have got a bad lot LOL
