Title: My new baby
Post by: crazydog on October 01, 2008, 07:08:42 PM
Hooray! I got my new card.
eVGA 9800GTX 512MB

Currently running ~60C idle

CoD4: 1440x900, 4x AA: 30-200 FPS
Assassin's Creed: 1440x900 max settings 30-50FPS
Crysis: 1440x900, 8x, AA, High settings <=20FPS    Medium Settings: >=20FPS (Crysis WARHEAD was giving me crazy bad graphics)
TF2: 1440x900, 16xQ CSAA, Max settings: >=60FPS (BTW, the 16xQ CSAA looks awesomely better than 4x AA)

Whats your average/max framerates in TF2? I was expecting way more than > 60 out of this card. I figured it would easily run a steady 120-150.
Good choice on EVGA though  :headbang1: ...they make great cards. Make sure you download Precision  (http://www.evga.com/precision/default.asp) to tune it, check the temps and set your fan speeds

The source and orangebox engine is also dependent on the CPU as well. If he has an older cpu then it will bottleneck the graphics card with source.

60FPS is the lowest it gets to.
For example, staring at the sky gets me ~200 FPs

I have the (discontinued) lowest end Core2Duo processor.
That's probably what's up next to upgrade...or just overclock the one I have now.

I love when people ask what others framerates are and they do not ask what size monitor or the resolution it is running at and also what OS and patch level they are at cause all of that information comes into play when determining FPS.  Also what are the settings on the game as well.  There are 8 different setting for AA alone.

Well I did mention the resolution and game settings in the OP. :P
It's a 19" widescreen monitor

I got 8505 3DMarks
3848 SM 2.0
4520 HRD/SM 3.0
1652 CPU

I forget what my old card got, but I did notice some dramatic FPS increases in the tests.

From what you told me, that processor seems to be your main bottleneck. 1.whatever Ghz just won't cut it...time to OC that bad boy!...or get a new one, so you can get those high steady framerates we all crave.
