Title: Windows XP internet sharing question
Post by: crazydog on September 15, 2008, 02:11:09 PM
This is a quick one.
Before i go buy a wireless card, it is possible to set up my desktop as an ad-hoc access point, and have my laptop connect to it, correct?

I spose you could do that.....  but could you draw me a picture of what you're trying to do?  hard wired LAN with a gateway device?

mspaint FTW

I want to do this cause the WiFi signal where I am is terrible.

Go by a cheap wireless router! Why would you want to do otherwise?

Yes your computer could do ICS.  Just setup the wireless card to talk to the laptop and you are all set.

My roommate tried setting up a router, but with all the stupid security precautions they have it's almost impossible.

You have to tell their system its MAC address, and he did, and it still didn't work, etc. etc. etc.

Much simpler to have it connect through a computer that already is working fine.
