Title: NTLDR missing
Post by: V.I.P. on July 21, 2008, 03:45:59 PM
So basically when I booted my system up when I got home from work i got the missing NTLDR message.  I looked at a few things on the internet, most suggest a floppy drive with a file on it.  I dont have access to a floppy atm so does anyone know of a few simple things i could check first to see if my computer will boot?

Uh oh. Every time this has happened to me, I've had to do a fresh install. Good luck, and hopefully one of those tutorials out there might work for you.

Start up from the xp cd.

When done loading, select recovery console.

You will be able to extract a fresh copy of the ntldr from the cd. If you can't get it just go to someones computer and download it. If that doesn't work I have a ERD Commander disk you can download. If will fix just about any XP problem.

I downloaded the XP Pro file from the FTP and I got it on the CD but it won't auto run when i start the computer...therefore it takes me to the missing ntldr text again.  Am I missing a file on the Cd I burned?

Did you set the cd-rom as first boot device in the bios?

yessir i even set it as the 1,2,3, and 4th priority for boot sequence.

Ok, i tried downloading the Commander and still no luck...if you can put up your version of the file I'd appreciate it widow.  I'll be leaving in a few minutes to go watch some little kids at summer camp *fun*  So, i'll be back later on wed night.  Thanx for the replies guys and I hope it'll be working soon.
