Welcome to the Day of Defeat: Source Beta forum. For the upcoming update, we'll be running a short beta test period, open to anyone that owns Day of Defeat: Source.
Changes in this update:
- added Dod_Palermo, updated map based on Dod_Salerno by Insta
- added Steamworks features, including achievements and player avatars
- added Nemesis and Revenge
- added Freeze Cam
- friendly players no longer collide with each other
- many particle systems have been improved
- changed the algorithm for bullet spread to be more like the original Day of Defeat
- reduced Garand recoil
- View position is now adjusted when zoomed with rifles and sniper rifles to help with player visibility around corners
Planned changes not in this update:
- Per-player stats linked to Steam Community
- many map exploit fixes
We welcome any bug reports in this forum, or by email to me at matt@valvesoftware.com.

hrmmmm....... i might start playing again o.O

One question about this, and i know it's a bit old, but a good topic none the less.
Would i have to pay for the game again? Also, would it be as tough on my cpu as TF2 can be?
-
The beta is free if you have DoD:S, and the upgrade will of course be free when it's out of beta
I'm not sure how much it hurts the CPU. It doesn't seem to be too bad for me, but you can always just go download it and test it out.
-
whats the difference between the beta and the old dod:s ?
-
the new one uses the Orange Box Source Engine.
-
any of you guys want to get together later tonight and test it out?
-
It rocks compared to old DoD..We should think about getting a server up like we did when TF2 was beta....
-
I'd be willing to pop in if we all want to try out the new bet a together.
The DoD:S community is still about 1/8 the size of the TF2 one, so maybe just a private server we could use sometimes.
-
we have had a DOD server twice before, and twice it didn't work. No one plays there enough, and no one tries to fill it up. Unless you guys want to get rid of the 2nd TF2 server for a while, it seems like a bad idea. We have been there before, and it doesn't work. DOD is not popular enough anymore.
Its still a great game though.
-
Once it is out of beta I would be up for trying out a DOD server in place of the second TF2 server. No one plays in it anymore anyway.

If you are gonna try a DOD server now would be the time to try it while it is still in the beta stage like we did with TF2, that way we could establish ourselves. If we wait, we all the players that are playing DOD beta now will probably stick with the same servers that they play in now. It would be harder for us to attract players once it is out of beta.
-
I'm up for swapping the 2nd TF2 server for a DoD one.
It fills up if six of us join, but not by itself like the other one does.
-
I'd be willing to try and help to get the DoD server rolling. It's a fun gameI miss playing it =P

That was pretty much what I was aiming at with my comments - Hong said it better!
-
I bought TF2 instead of DOD...but if we have this server, perhaps I may get it. I love anything WWII and have always wished we still played this. I'm all for it.
-
Some one is going to have to spell out the differences for me. I know its run with the same engine as tf2, but everything seems the exact same to me, physics and everything.
-
It is, but it isn't
-
Why not get it Smurf? It's only $10? :P
