What kind of system do you have now? What kind of price range? What kind of connections do you have on your motherboard? What kind of power supply?
If you answer these questions we can get ya one that works well.

Price range caps at around $200.... im not willing to go higher... My Pc has AGP and PCI, but i prefer AGP.... its just a normal power supply... nothing fancy.. just a normal PC... 2.4 processor.... 1 GB ram... Windows XP... dobly surround sound lol jk...

I just purchased an ATI X1950PRO 512M at New Egg for $189 recently, havent used it yet, putting computer together this weekend :-D. It got pretty good reviews and it should be a pretty good card....

I get constant 150-/+ fps, no lag or choke and am usually the first to load in on maps.
My junk:
Intel 3.4 extreme edition
Thermalright xp-120 heatsink
Albatron 865PEPro II mobo
7950GT 512MB
2gb ddr400
Coolermaster 400 watt psu
Coolermaster CM stacker case
XP MCE

Don't waste your money.

Speaking of sick, Last weekend I retired the 37 LCD for a 50 plasma. Wife thinks I'm insane. Games sure do look good on it!
-
ATI X1950PRO seems like a good card for under 200 bucks

are you joking a big screen for CSS lol wow that great

It's great! However, I'm stuck on a tiny 19 inch lcd when I'm at work where I play the most from.
Hurtz, I think that Ati card only has a 128 mb interface vs. the Nvidias 256. The memory interface is where it's at along with the actual onboard 512 ram and the 24 pipes the 7950 has.
I also noticed that the more games/programs on your pc, the more problems one is likely to have. I just reinstalled BF2 Monday night, and my load times into the source server have increased a bit. I did have a fresh install of XP MCE, now since adding BF2 and newer Microsoft updates I have began to notice some slow down possibly due to more background services running.
Another thing that will help out big time is upgrading the cpu. in my case I went from a socket 478 3.0 prescot core to a 3.4 extreme edition galatin core socket 478. if you check newegg, they can be found for less than 100 bones! When it was released a couple years ago, they were around a grand.... By doing that, I eliminated the cpu as being the"bottle neck" of my system - when the gpu would out run the cpu. Kinda like trying to put your fist through a funnel. I also just installed some tweaked drivers from guru3d. I now get closer to 200fps at times with v-sync disabled.

im thinking of going for the EVGA GeForce 7800 GS CO :headbang1:
-
I "retired" the system mentioned above. It's now surfing the web and doing "chick" stuff for my wife.
Got a quad core system now with 4 gigs of ram, and I just ordered an 8800GTX 768mb from newegg. I'll post back my results. Should be here in a couple days.
-
Let me know how that turns out. I got some "spare cash" and i was thinking of getting a 8800.
-
I actually changed my order to the 8800 Ultra, not the GTX..

yea, thats what i might get for the comp i wanna build.

I should have it and the BFG 650 watt psu by monday. Fucking UPS has my package sitting in a warehouse only 30 miles away but the cock-knockers wont deliver till monday, even though it could be placed on a truck tomorrow morning. Theyre just sitting on it and I was hoping to get it before the weekend.
On another happy note, I decided to use the Intel Matrix raid on my new box. Migrated my stuff over onto a raid-0 array of two 300gig hd. Took about 3 hours to do. Afterwards I launch steam and it wouldnt go past the log in. All my games were gone! So, now I'm going to have to re-load cs:s and all the damn maps for gg..
-
Well, looks like UPS will deliver my stuff today after all, tracking shows on the truck for delivery!
The fun starts soon. This new pc has a smaller tower than I am used to using and a bunch of stuff is going to have to be modified to make the card fit. For one, a removable media drive bay will have to go along with the cage it lives in.
If anyone is looking to buy one of these boxes, the price is right, and would be hard to build for the same money ($1049.00 for the tower, no monitor)..Out of the box it plays Source flawless on all high settings at 1024x768 @ 100+ fps on most maps.

A cheaper one is available with integrated video, but still has all the goodies minus the raid and a couple other things I could of did without and wish I had got this one to start with at $849 even a better deal:

I did it! After a couple hours of surgery, it was a go!

more pix..
Just for comparison sake the stock card (red) and the 8800 ultra. Even the tv tuner card was mightier than the 7130...
:-D

EVGA 8800 GT. You can get their 512MB and 700Mhz card for $299.
Very good product.
