I don't know if anyone on here keeps up to date with the current format war for the next generation High Definition dvds and games, but i stumbled upon this and found it rather interesting. Sony's big "catch" was that the amount of information that can be held stored on a Blu-Ray compared to a HD-dvd. Toshiba just announced a triple layer HD-dvd capable of holding 51Gb of information. Only catch is early/current HD Players cannot read that third level of information. Heres the link for anyone wanting to read more...

thank for the link. i think hd will stay for a while but you never know sony has alot of money. really depends if the consumer is gonna switch to one or the other, and depending on which is cheaper for us to buy and get the best quality..
-
Thanks for the link rage. just got the hd dvd player for the 360. looks good, but ive kinda wanted to know about this, so thanks.
-
I want one of them but, I don't want the one that will lose, sooooo Option 3. pick the one that wins anyway

LG player plays both formats using 1 blue laser + 2 diodes.
They are facing some problems getting DVDforum approval, but it is capable so it's only
a matter of time before we see more.
-
I agree, I probably won't buy either 'till one of them comes out on top. I think that Blu-ray would be great if they weren't so stinkin expensive. Anyway, that link is pretty handy. Thanks

Okay look at one thing here:
1. ONE Layer blue ray disc holds 25GB of storage.
2. DUAL Layer blue ray disc holds 50GB of storrage.
3. If this patterns continues a 75GB triple layer disc will come out.
If you want to look at something crazy google holographic discs.
*Personally I think that Blue Ray looks better than HD-DVD but I need more time in front of an HD-DVD to really determine which one I will be buying.*
-
I read that there is almost no noticable difference between HD and Bule ray.
-
Blu-ray screwed up their first generation discs. Sony bought most blue laser diodes so there
aren't many players availabe from anyone else but them and samsung. Blu-ray Shoves a
fistful of DRM up your ass. Producing blu-ray discs costs producers more money. :thebirdman:
And they are trying to prevent porn on Blu-ray for a while. :crybaby:
HD-DVD Discs are cheaper which means movie prices will drop sooner than Blu-r. :-)
Hd-dvd wants porn companies to use their format. :-D
Hd-dvd has several combo discs that have regular dvd on one side, and HD version on the other side. In
case you haven't upgraded, you pay 1 time for both versions. Microsoft is officially supporting HD-DVD
so your computer wil be more compatible.
And who needs 75GB discs, when the movie already fits on what they have now. They'll just give you
more deleted scenes. and more DRM. :puke:

Seems like HD has a good hand over blueray.
-
Blu-Ray for storage, HD for quality graphics i think
-
i think so 2.
-
Graphics are actually about the same noobs. They both output 1080p.
-
eh i was just spaming. they r about the same. But hd is now putting 2 dvd's on one disc. Like superman. They will put it in HD and regular. Thats really good on their part cause that will make is so that ppl might buy the dvd for a regular player and wait for HD to win out, or wait for the prices to drop.
-
Old Topic, but nevertheless the Blu Ray wins the battle
-
Disney picked up Blu-Ray for it's movies exclusively...it's over. :flamed: Die, HD-DVD, die!!!!!!!!!!
-
The local paper around here in West By God Virginia had a big article about Blu-Ray and Walmart. Stating that Wallmart was going to stop selling DVD, and only sell Blu-Ray. They also said that blu-Ray players will be hard to come by. :headbang:
-
Well, I also saw where blu ray will now be the prefered medium...

I bet the prices will go up initially because there is no competition now.

Saw tigerdirect is giving away HD players now...
