Title: Just saw Hostel
Post by: Kaneda on January 08, 2006, 11:00:27 PM
I just saw Hostel... and the plot was actually pretty decent. Good job Quentin. It wasn't really that scary, but there were quite a bit of titties. Overall... I'd give it a 7/10. I suggest seeing it... A LOT BETTER than wolf creek.

xtc didn't want to see the movie, but once you all informed him about some nekkid titties, he figured he should probably take a look just to make sure they made a respectable movie and all that jazz

Way to go XTC!

Its no written by or directed by Terrantino. I believe he's one of the producers. Meh.

His films are above par, to be sure, but since he wasn't the writer or director, I wouldn't expect the usual touches he puts in his films.

Also, from what Paladin says, sounds a lot like Saw. Gory and such, but not scary, and mostly lame.

Sidenote: I saw Fun With Dick and Jane last night, that was definitely worth my 8.50.

I haven't seen it yet, but I plan on seeing it this weekend. A few people I know said it was pretty good but gore was over the top, but I'll see for myself.

Eh I liked the Kill Bills were very good... and the plot of this movie has been better than most scary/gore movies I've seen lately. Makes you think: are there really places like that out there? But we all have our opinions I guess.

'Hostel' was a fine example of extreme American Commercialised Cinema. This is in light of the recent craze of importing and (semi) butchering of the more Extreme Asian Cinema (see 'Audition' if you can find it, or 'Oldboy' or even 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' these also bear the "Quentin Tarrantino Presents' tags).
First 35-45 minutes of Hostel are a setup and a sex romp with some silliness thrown in (Oli steals these minutes with his horn dog "fish out of water" ways) and most people just want to have Josh killed horribly anyway, the lil pansy. But the majority of this movie is direclty related TO this setup in the beginning. Then its more a study of depravity bending normal people to also become depraved, ie; stare into the abyss the abyss stares into you...
Paxton, our "hero" is a multi-lingual, vegan, clean cut, perv... one of those doesnt belong but they needed it in there for movies sake. So hes meant to be a 'nice' guy til the shit begins...

Think on it, who does the most murders in this film? Cold blooded at that!

Still, if you didnt bust a gut at the 'bubble gum gang' and their key moments on film you need help. That shit was fuggin HIGH-larious!! Throw in the tragic "Ive been despoiled and honor is taken, I must seppoku now" scene with Michelle Lim on the platform... and the results on the ordinary passengers standing around, I couldnt stop laughing. I actually passed a loud stinker from laughing so much...

I refuse to compare this movie with either Saw film as theyre not even remotely the same, this one has some scares if you have any imagination.

Yeah it was pretty decent, not scary or nothing but there was a couple really awesome parts, especially  the cutting off the eyeball with the ooze and the blood and the "HIVEN AND THE GLIVEN!"
