Who plays dod or cs over a wireless connection? do you notice any difference over being wired up?
thanks for your two cents!
-
There is not much difference. unless you have really shitty equipment. I don't notice too much overhead at all in my routing latencies.
-
Naw I notice no difference at all... except for the occasional lag spike... but I think that goes for anyone, even those using hardwire. :iamwithstupid:
-
people who say yes don't know how t oconfigure their router!
-
well when I was on the east coast with my wireless router (configured properly... CCNA so I know how) I would ping 60-70... when I went straight wired I was at 5-20.

when i was on a wireless connection i would ping like 70-80 on our servers, but when my connection got fucked up and i couldnt use a wireless card, i whent directly connected. then i pinged 40-50
-
i dont have too much of a problem with ping as much as i do with loss and choke sometimes. im running a d-link 108g 2.4ghz router with matching card. IMO wired is better. but have you fools seen the new D-Link gaming router http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370&#DGL-4300 looks like it covers some of the known issues with online games and wireless...

whatever guys. all you have to do is ping your router, wired or not and that is the increase in overhead. mine adds 2 ms.
now if you router drops packets like mad, that is another issue. it can be resolved. just remember that radiowaves can travel faster than electrons in copper in theory. Don't let the bias of when wireless first came out getcha.

That's pretty much exactly correct. Unless your wireless router is dropping your connection or missing packets because of poor connectivity, its every bit as fast for gaming.
The only time you might notice slow down is when transfering large files (or large volumes of files,) because wireless can range anywhere from 11mbps to 54mbps (B to G,) while in theory ethernet can hit 100mbps or 1000mbps.
