Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the Counter-Strike:source game sounds while in multiplayer?  Meaning no background sounds, no music or anything the only sound you would hear is that of your player and other players...

you can turn that off... but you wont be able to play with it off in cal or in our pubs since we have CSP... which blocks clients the ability to turn off thing that can give someone an advantage.
