Title: Source "rate" and "cl_rate" commands
Post by: Spikeroo on February 12, 2005, 03:04:46 PM
From console:

rate x  (def. "10000")
Max bytes/sec the host can receive data

cl_rate y  (def. "10000")
Max bytes/sec the host can send data

So let's say I set my rate to 20000 and my cl_rate to 10000.  That's 160 kilobits per second down and 80 kilobits per second upstream.  My connection is 3 Megabits down - 256 kilobits up.  Would it not seem to make sense for me to make my rate 375000 and my cl_rate 32000?

Hmmmmm.... :dontknow:

 Mr. Green would like to know to... :headbang1:

Keep in mind that your rate at which you receive data is not dependent on your downstream bandwidth, but rather it is dependent on the max rate that the server itself is set at.  As for how fat you can send data, again the server can only receive data at a certain maxrate.  Setting your rate and cl_rate above what the server is set for would do nothing for you.  Get what I mean?

Sure do...but in that instance that I joined the Super Duper 1337 Super Duper Server that gives ya all the bandwidth you want - I'll be ready............................................................................

Nope...you're screwed...sorry... :dontknow:

Setting depends on your connection...10000 is default for both - start there.  I use 20000 & 10000 for my connection - doesn't really make a noticable difference if I use anywhere from 10000-25000.

Privateer, you need to tweak your cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate to fix pings, choke and loss.  Just topy with he rates.  I have them both set at 35 and I am in good shape all the way around.  :)

I've fucking figured it out...don't touch the friggin' rates - 20/30 defaults.  Of course this only applies if you have a POS isp like Charter.
