Any recommendations on headsets with built in microphone?

Never owned one before...have been using speakers and a stand microphone.

Looking for something that won't be too hot on my ears (I get hot easily).
Something that has a mute button would be nice.
I don't know if there's anything out there, but if there's something that has the ability to switch off and divert back to my desktop speakers w/o having to mess with the plugs in the back, that would be awesome.

Looking for your experiences and products that you own.

1) Do NOT get the AudioFX Force Feedback headset. It's a good headset, except that it falls apart after about 2 months.

2) I suggest buying a headset for $50. That seems to be the best price:quality ratio.

3) Do NOT get a headset with a USB connector. They are more expensive and do not produce better quality sound than analog connectors. The signal has to be converted back to analog anyway.

4) Try to find one with a removable microphone. That way you can wear the headset as headphones away from your computer without looking crazy.

5) I picked up the Creative "Fatal1ty" headset at Fry's when I gave up on the AudioFX ones I had (see #1). I've had it for about a year and a half, and it's a great headset. It has a removable microphone, which is completely flexible, and it is very comfortable, while still not letting a ton of outside sound in. I can wear these for hours with no discomfort. It also has a toggle switch for the mic. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826158082

6) It never hurts to check out the best rated headsets on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010290707&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=RATING

I have both the Tritton AX360 and also the Razer Megalodon and both are great.  The Tritton is 5.1 Surround and the Razer is 7.1 Surround.

i like em, sit nice on your head, comfy, they look like ear muffs, but just big enough to go around the ears without sitting on them (if that makes sense) only block out outside noise during game play (i dont play too loud, just loud enough where i can bare it and drowns out my GF), mic folds up so it just looks like headphones, then you can fold it out when needed, but as it was said i use the USB connection you cant use speakers, i tested it with speakers and plugging the headset into the audio jacks in the front and speakers still work, I could be wrong but from what ive heard is it simulates 5.1, but you need the Usb end for it to do so, ill get back to you later after some game play see if its any different

Whatever you get, try to get something with at least 5.1 surround and a mic.

They don't make those...the voice of the wife has the highest signal-to-noise ratio of any audio system made (love you honey :-D )

Tritton Ax 360 as Video has said.  I have it, it's expensive but christ, you can hear shit that isn't really there, haha.  For real, this headset rocks.

I have never had any issues with my Tritton.  Have had it for over 2 years and still works great.
