6800 help

k i have a nvidia 6800 oc and i get crappy fps all the time, im getting like 50 fps at best in d2! help me plz!!!! i have default settings and need help. plz when you help me give me instructions cuz im a vidio card nub

well whats your computer? I got a 6800 GT that I OC and I get decent but not great fps because I need to upgrade my computer. I got a p4 3ghz 800fsb with 1GB dual chan corsair.

Because they now have >800fsb.  And there are better processors out there.  But, that should do fine.

What are your settings at.  My 6600 gets the same framerates as you, and it's a mobile version.  The rest of the system specs on my lappy are good - it's the alviso mobo, which runs a faster bus, and dual channel memory than other lappies.  My processor runs at 2 ghz, but it is way more efficient than a p4.

So, you should be getting better performance, unless your mobo/memory/cpu combo is low.  CSS is very taxing on the cpu, more so than other games, so you need to have a setup similar to adders.  To fully reap all of the benefits of the 6800, you'd have to go even better.

If your system is ok, then perhaps your card is bad...i.e. burnt out pixel pipelines, ?  I doubt this is the case though, since it has always been this slow for you.

to answer you questions death... im running on xp with service pack2 pentium 4 cpu is 2.40 ghz and a gig of ram. help me!!!!!!!!!!

sounds about right, i have a 6800 and i get about 75 fps or so... 3.2 p4 800fsb 1 gig ram

i will never fuck with my direct x level again. i did that once and it fucked source up really bad. i put it back to level 9 and i would see white boxes with and x in the middle. only where the light points were. i had to reinstall source. not fun. vergas is it AGP or PCI-e? what kind fo board do you have is it an OEM borad from a PC manufacturer or did you custom build your rig? as adder said its probably HW related. like lets say its AGP and you have a shit Compaq board. those boards are not built with custom cards in mind. they intend them to be run with he shit they put in. also how many watts is your power supply, and what all do you have hooked into it ( HD's, network cads, fans, lights )? that card requires alot of juice expecially if it is overclocked. that could be a very good reason why it is not perfoming the way it should. with that card on and OEM board with more that one HD and an ethernet card i suggest you have at LEAST a 350-400W PSU. if not donw the line you will end up frying stuff you dont need to fry.

is vertical sync on?  if so disable it.  my 6600 maxes out at 60 when vertcal sync is on (refresh rate is 60 hertz)

Firstly, I think u should go to the management tools of ur computer, and check it out whether there are too many unnecessary services installed.. Just deactive, disable the auto-running or even uninstall which u dont need..

Secondly, make sure u have closed all the applications running in ur system which u dont need when u in game, by this, i mean porn downloading program,  .

Thirdly, make sure u got the newest driver of ur video card and directx9.0.

fourthly, turn off the vertcal sync...

If all of these dont help u well, so come to my final solution, use the following in ur config file. But to ur attention, this would low something like effect of ur game, but defenitely impove the fps a lot...

I got amd64 2800+, 1g memory and 6600gt oc..  after all these 5 steps, I got like at least 70-80 fps in D2, and when no ppl around, its over 120fps..

p.s. If u are thinking about upgrading ur pc, my suggestion would be  Get a better CPU...  ur p4 2,4g is little bit weak in ur whole system.

yah i most def. tried all that shit, im jsut goin to buy a new motherboard. i think thats the prob, cuz i my comp is kinda old....
