Title says it all. I'm looking to get a new computer, this one serves me well but it's a bit old. I'll be keeping my sound card so no need for a new one. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

I'll start with the tower-

Mobo-

Some good choices. I'm not going to comment on the tower because that is usually a question of taste, but suggest getting as large a tower as possible to help promote cooling and any future upgrades.

The Mobo, I would read the reviews first. Personally I would go with the nforce 680 or 7 series (new) With that you have the ability to add a second 8800 and sli.

Memory: good choice, but double up to 4 gigs. Vista uses a gig just idling.

PSU: excellent choice! PCP&C is the shit. For a little more 1kw would be nice.

CPU: Go quad core for the same money and thank me later. Dont just look at the fact that the one you chose is 3ghz. It's only a dual core. Go with the quad and have the same smile on your face the rest of us do that have one. Yes, it's that good!

How's this one look?

I heard Vista only recognizes 3 gigs. True or not?

Done!

Thanks for the advice.

That EVGA is a great board!

Their vid cards are kick ass too. I would get one of theirs because they have a lifetime warranty and a trade up program.

True about vista 32, it sees like 3.4 mb but since ram is cheap, why not four one gig sticks? I'm sure that once sp1 is released, they may deal with the memory issue in vista 32. That gives you one gig per cpu core, It wont hurt to have the extra memory and even though it wont see it now, wont hurt it either. Course you could always go vista 64 and not have to worry about it.

The more I research into this the more it costs me. So far I'm a little over 1,700 bucks worth of silicone. I think I have everything squared away though. Good thing I have some money saved up. Thanks again.

Ponce, before you order I would ask myself a serious question: Do I need to spend $1700 to play video games? If you still live at parents or are semi dependent on your folks, the answer should be no...

Just some advice bro, it's your money...Just don't waste it.

I see where you're coming from, and thanks. The thing about me, whether it's a good thing or not, is that I hate skimping on quality. If I'm going to spend a couple hundred bucks on a mobo or a processor, I can't justify not spending an extra say, 50 bucks, to get the one that will last longer and out perform the other. And then of course it all adds up. The way I see it is if I'm already spending big money, why not go for broke (not literally). Like I said I have some money saved up, and I also have some extra money from scholarships as well, plus I work (nearly) full time. I figure I might as well spend my money on shit like this when I'm young and still living with the 'rents, because when I'm older I'll be more focused on bills, kids, IRA funds, ect.

i have done it. i have designed a system for gaming close to what you have but better and cheaper. i took your designs above and modified it slightly and gave you a better and faster processor for less money and a all around better system for gaming. it took me about an hour and half so dont be too critical on me i did work hard on this but this is a killer gaming system for under a thousand dollars that has twice as much processor, twice as much ram, and twice the video card for under a grand. if you are interested i will help you make this dream system a reality. i have priced everything at microcenter. i have one here in cincinnati and they base there prices to beat (majority of the time) to beat newegg.com i have dealt with microcenter for years and they are great. so here you go here is the system you have been waiting for.

processor- 274.99 (p.s. this is not a core 2 duo... this is a core 2 quad core alot more processor for a cheaper price)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0257938

mobo - 139.99
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0261042

power suppy - 99.99
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0265147

ram - two options 2 2gig for a total of 4 gigs 119.99 (79.99 after rebate)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0259027
or
two 1 gig which is what you have chosen now. 59.99 (39.99 after rebate)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0256275

hard drive.
you have found the best deal. 69.99

now here comes the part where i feel different then other people and seen it work.
video card.
the board has sli which allows you to link two cards as one well
i suggest 2 geforce 8500 gt 512mb for 99.99 each.. sli
after mail in rebate they are only 79.99 each
now since you have two of them sli together it still gives you the option of running dual monitored. and your video runns over a gig in memory.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0263677

dvd-+R/rw 59.99
SuperMulti 8x Dual/Double Layer 20x DVD Burner with LightScribe "SATA"
i recommend this drive due to the fact it burns in dual layer it gives you lightscribe abilities so if you like to burn labels on your discs. but you dont have to use it.
and also this drive uses sata instead of ide. trust me its makes a huge world of difference

and the card reader you can get at newegg for 12.99 or microcenter where i priced everything here is 14.99

now added up the cost of everything that i priced which would make you a killer computer system. without shipping but i am sure they will ship everything free or cheap since you are purchasing alot from them. the grand total is.

978.92 with the 4gigs of memory

and

918.92 with 2 gigs of memory but i recommend the four gigs of memory due to the fact you will not get the full effect of vista unless you have 4 gigs of memory in your system. if you have any questions feel free to email me at chadsp@verizon.net

My latest system that I have with all the little extras that I got ran me about $2600 after taxes.  This includes the CPU Cooler and the NB abd SB Coolers and extra fans and such.  Keyboard, Mouse, Nostromo Pad were extras.
