Title: COD World at War
Post by: MR|337 on October 24, 2008, 11:26:27 PM
The PC beta will be out soon. Maybe we could get a server up for it like we did with TF2 when it was beta and get a head start on everybody? The beta is supposed to be available for download and will run on a dedicated windows server...

I'm definitely buying this game. If we could run a server for it and not have any problems like we did with the COD4 pub, I'd be all for it.

Ok, if you have the collectors edition your clan tag is supposed to be gold right.  How does that happen.  I read you have to go to the "barracks" menu, but wtf is that. Am I missing something here?

Now, I don't want to get flamed or anything, but besides different skins, sounds, maps, and weapons (which act basically the same as the CoD4 weapons, just not as technologically advanced), how is this game any different/better than COD4?

I played the beta, I played the singleplayer campaign, but I just don't see how it's so much different than the last game, except the setting. It's even built on the same engine!

The mulitplayer is in essence exactly the same, with a couple new perks. Why not just keep playing Cod4?

skins, sounds, maps, and weapons ... That is the main difference, but it is such a huge difference.  The campaign is different, but the game began to be developed before COD4 and that is why it is all on the same engine and similar, but the weapons ranks, and all that stuff is what makes the game sooo different, and very fun.  Especially the time period it takes place.  You can say that for every game that has a squeal and every movie that comes out, its the same thing except for the characters, and acting or weapons and maps and such...  You more or less are contradicting your self because you stated all the things that are different, the only thing that is the same is the engine.  Its like comparing TF2 and DOD because they are on the same engine, and the characters, weapons, maps and such are different.  The games are completely different as both COD's are.  So just some insight.

TF2 and DOD are very different because the major difference is the classes, and how they have their own features. If DOD had the same exact class features as TF2, I'd say they are the same.

COD4+5 are basically the same game, because if you skinned COD5 to look just like COD4, and played the COD4 maps, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Not so for TF2 and DODS

Sure it's the same engine and only guns and maps are different....but it FEELS different. Somehow, for me, it's not the same game. Plus, it does have a new game mode and some of the mechanics (artillery/dogs) are different. The addition of the prestige mode is also new and so is the friends system (though not as good as steam). I do see your point however, it is very similar almost mod like.

It's like Battlefield vietnam was for Battlefield, except it's actually functional. They shouldn't have called it COD5 though since it still uses the previous game engine.

Last night I went into the server and [EcS]Styker5 was in there by himself messing around. I hopped on and Taylor and I got the server populated to well over 20 people. We started around 8 P.M. and there were still people in the server when I left at 2 A.M. So come play tonight and lets do it again!
