So, I talked to this guy who is apparently the son of one of the employees at ValVe, and is even a pretty talented programmer and decoder himself. Apparently, during the last 2010 SDK update, Valve made some changes to the data on the Source engine but forgot to change the Base files that made up the foundation, or so I believe. As my colleague says, this will be fixed with the implementation of the new engine coming out with Portal 2, as well as future games on the same engine.

I'd love to see an update to all OB engine games when Portal 2 comes out, which may be a reason why it was delayed? What? I'm an optimist!

Although if you look at how long it took valve to convert CS:S, Half-Life 2, and DoD to the Orange Box engine, that might not happen.
